Stimulant use is probably very widespread too.

For decades , it was speed, particularly dextroamphetamine. Playing without it was called “playing naked”.

Bonds got caught (more or less) both juicing and using amphetamines

Nowadays, it’s probably Adderall and Ritalin.

They want every little bit of focus possible to try to hit a ball traveling 100 MPH.

Most if not all of the top players on the same shit. Bonds was just better than the rest. Even before he blew up weight wise he was clearly the best player in the league for damn near a decade

watched his induction speech. very happy he finally got in. if either he didnt get hurt with the dodgers, or have the 94 season shortened by the strike, perhaps his best offensive season, he'd have easily eclipsed 500 homers and been inducted 15 years ago.

Funny you post in the baseball thread today. Just 15 minutes ago I got done watching a documentary on Rickey Henderson, another icon from my childhood.

Rickey Henderson greatest leadoff hitter ever. Canseco kinda threw shade at him alluding to his steroid use. Dude played till mid 40s

And greatest base stealer there ever will be. His SB record will never be broken.

was asked what is more unbreakable, his SB record or Ryan's strikeout record?

Without question Henderson's. He's ridiculously high in front even the #2 SB guy (Lou Brock).

I was also a big fan of Kenny Lofton. Lofton was like Henderson-lite.

i know loftons cousin. he also started for arizona on their final 4 team.

pitchers dont even throw more than 6 innings anymore, i think it will be damn near impossible for one to come along and stay healthy long enough to break ryans record for Ks.

    Neither record will be broken.

Fuckin analytics have made it so that base stealing isn't even as valued now as it was 30-40 years ago.

kershaw is at almost 3000 Ks. so if he had some magical resurgence at age 35 and pitched another decade averaging 200ks per season he would barely pass Ryan.

I think Ryan also has the record for most no hitters, but I could be wrong about that.

Within my viewing lifetime at least, Pedro in the late 90s was the best pitcher I've ever witnessed.

Pete Rose once said that Sandy Koufax was the only guy he ever faced who consistently dominated him.

The legend goes that Mantle once got struck out by Koufax and turned to the catcher and said: "How the fuck is anybody supposed to hit that shit?"

Only two men have ever been in a World Series & NCAA Final 4. They are from the same town and went to the same high school though at least a decade apart. Kenny Lofton and a pitcher (I think it's Tim Stoddard but have to double check.)

    Yes, Tim Stoddard.

Only two men have ever been involved in the NCAA Final Four and the MLB World Series. Both men were born and raised in East Chicago, Indiana and both went to the same high school (Washington HS) in that town.

Tim Stoddard won the NCAA title as a forward with 1973-74 NC State Wolf Pack. Then won the World Series as a relief pitcher with the 1983 Baltimore Orioles.

Kenny Lofton was in the 1988 final four as a back up point guard (backing up Steve Kerr) for the Arizona Wildcats (lost the semifinal to Oklahoma.) He played in the 1995 World Series as an outfielder for the Cleveland Indians (lost to the Braves) and the 2002 World Series as a San Francisco Giant (lost to the Angels.)

What's the deal with teams trading to get their old players back?

    Dodgers trade for Kike Hernandez

    Angels for C. J. Crohn

And now the Astros get Justin Verlander back.
