Happens more than you think, the prime example being Best Supporting Actress in 1977 that went to Beatrice Straight in Network:
    5 minutes 40 seconds

Not gonna lie... I saw it yesterday. Sly and Hut beware, it's just as gay as you expect.

Totally agreed with Anthony. Ali was only in the first half of the movie, then was never seen again. In reality, he was the only bright spot I could find about this piece of shit, gay ass movie.

I predicted last year that this year the Academy would bend over backwards to appease black people. That's why blacks need to stop complaining about this silly shit. You don't see Indians and Chinese etc complaining about lack of inclusion in Hollywood but blacks feel the need to beg white Hollywood for recognition. Just like what happened when Denzel, Halle and Poitier won oscars on the same night...following a similar silly black protest, we've won two supporting actor oscars and a best picture. The problem now is the question: did they earn it or was it a gift? Who knows they may have won anyway but now...because of Jada's bullshit of last year there's a cloud hanging over the victories

Ali and Moonlight were both given the awards as ridiculous gifts.

Viola Davis legitimately deserved the award for best supporting actress.

But overall, I'm just sickened by what Hollywood views as quality in a black movie.

Yeah. Hollywood gave "Precious" quite a bit of recognition and now they do the same thing with Moonlight. Still...I blame black filmmakers. The only black films they seem to make are ones where blacks are in poverty or slavery or on drugs.

Unfortunately, true. And white America eats it all up, and states "That movie really did a fine job depicting the black experience!"

As if all mothers are sitting in the kitchen high off the pipe, stealing our lunch money and bringing randon men in the house to fuck while we get mentored in the streets by the local drug dealers.

That's not EVERY black experience. It's not even MOST black experiences. No more than it is the "white experience" cause God knows, white kids in America grow up with drug addicted/neglectful parents just as often as blacks.

Moonlight was a quality movie. Top notch acting and gorgeous cinematography and directing. Barry Jenkins has a great future ahead of him and look forward to his next movie. That being said, no fucking did it deserve to win best picture. La La Land was much better overall. It's a shame for moonlight, because its going to have this shadow over it, because everyone knows the only reason it got the award was because it was a black movie with a gay theme.

We'll have to disagree. I didn't see it as quality. The cinematography, yes, that was awesome. The rest? I didn't like. Maybe because it was so goddamn cliche.

Not ONLY was it the worst of the movies nominated, it was the worst of the three BLACK MOVIES nominated. Both Fences and Hidden Figures were much better than Moonlight.

Hollywood loves fag themes, that's for sure.

It's also daily life for many white kids in this country. But do you see that angle told to death?

Black people are tired of seeing the same ole story told over and over again.

Of course, that's what Hollywood does. If it's a regular family they're going to be portrayed as a white regular family. If it's a true story, say about Asians or any other non white race doing something positive, they're going to white wash it with Caucasian actors.

It's bogus. What Hollywood black movie are we comparing moonlight to? And what year did it come out?

    Maybe I'm not being clear.

I can't speak for anyone else...but my issue is: Of the relatively small percentage of blacks films out there, the vast majority of them that are recognized are those that perpetuate negative stereotypes; drugs, single parent, poverty, violence etc...

No offense, but in this case, I don't expect a white person to fully "get" what Sly and I are trying to say.

Maybe the Critically acclaimed ones. But again, i ask you, what movie prior to moonlight was like moonlight. This will be a hard question for you, because you havent even seen the movie. This movie was up against another black movie that had a two parent family, no drugs, medium income, no violence. But this is what we are focusing on? Fences and Hidden Figures both weren't like that. And then you have black the top black actors who normally dont do movies like that. Denzel, The Rock, Will Smith, etc. It's easy to focus on the negative, but in reality there is lots of positive films too.

And X i get what you are saying completely. Im just saying instead of focusing on Moonlight, in which Drugs and Violence wasnt really the focal point. Let's focus on the positive black films that were nominated too.

    Yet didn't win...

And both, frankly, were better movies than Moonlight.

Correct, but it won, not because of the negative stereo type of black people, but because it was a gay movie, which is not yet cliche in the black community.

I guess my disappointment comes in that Moonlight is THE FIRST black movie to win Best Picture, and it's a fag movie...

To this day I don't get the hype for this film. Very mediocre film.
