What fucks me off is that you guys act like this shit was some 7-0 wipeout in Leonard's favor

It only is if you don't know how to score a boxing match

Also, Davey Moore would have been Macho if he had quit against Duran, since Duran didn't fight by the rules (he fouled constantly). It would have been perhaps the most macho moment of boxing history, IMO

Duran's fouling in that fight is really overrated

This forums going slower than death by intestinal wounds so:

    REED: Why? Ring size

Ugo: Moving in a 18 or 20 foot ring isn't illegal.

    Steve: behave yourself.

Television network was hyping him as the new Leonard. His whole family: mother, sisters, girlfriend, etc were at ringside cheering him. It was after his embarrassing defeat that way way much later he admitted those things you pointed out, but at the time he defeated Ricardo Cardona, considered a solid champion who just came from defeating Palma, that the tv network began to hype him.

When you have a personal relationship with The Duran truth rises above falsehood like so much oil in water. For all honor and eternal dominion be with He. Get me?

    disagREED Bro...

Duran FLAGRANTLY THUMBED Moore Very Early in the Bout & LACED him a Handful of Other Times...No, it Wasn't the Blatant NUTSHOT on Ken Buchanan, but it was Undeniably DIRTY...

    Right...

People Act as if Sugar Ray Leonard was @ his Opportunistic HEIGHTS, During this Time...He Wasn't QUITE There Yet...Obviously ON the Way, w/SOME Sway, but Duran had the WIN...It's Doubtful Duran EVER had as Much BIG Fight Negotiating Leverage as he Had just After his WIN Over Ray Leonard....

Nonetheless, there's this Notion Among Duran Fans that he was HELPLESS PREY @ the Bargaining Table w/the Big, Bad Wolf, Ray Leonard...That Leonard Actually MADE Duran Fight the RE EARLIER than he Wanted to & was Granted Every Single Concession, During the Promotion...

Leonard Didn't have THAT Level of Negotiating PULL (Over a Guy like Duran, who had JUST Beaten Him) Until AFTER the Hearns Bout, in REED's Opinion...

The most Duran had ever made was the 1.5m he made in Montreal. He was offered 8m for the november rematch. In Hut's opinion there was nowhere else Duran could have made that money and Ray's negotiating position was 'take it or leave it'. Duran's bargaining power got him a huge purse but with conditions attached - a trade off Ray also willingly made against Hagler. I'll give you a bigger slice of the pie but you meet my conditions on timing, ring size, glove size, fight length etc. If Duran's people stipulated a supra-regulation sized ring it's one of the most inexplicable demands in the history of human negotiation. Extraordinary claims warrants extraordinary evidence - can we see it please, steve_dave?

"Take it or Leave It"???...Leonard Had JUST LOST to Duran, Dude...

If Duran (or More Importantly, his BRAINTRUST) REALLY Believed Ray Leonard Would be FINE w/Out Attempting to AVENGE the 1st Loss of his Career, he DESERVED to Get FUCKED @ the Negotiating Table...

If Duran WASN'T Ready, DON'T Take the Fight...If You DON'T Like the Size of the Ring, DON'T Take the Fight...Again, Duran had the WIN over Leonard...& KNOWING What we Now Know about Leonard (How Much Fighting AND BEATING the Absolute BEST Meant to Him), There's NOfuckingWAY he'd have Been Content Going On w/his Career WITHOUT a RE w/Duran...

There's NO Evidence that Duran was @ The Mercy of Ray Leonard, for the RE...NONE...

The idea that Duran's team demanded a ring that size rather than ceding to it as one of leonard's demands is, frankly, ludicreth and I hereby cast it into the bolivia of Hut's 'stupid ideas to be dismissed out of hand' waste paper bin. Lets never speak of it again. All praise be to The Duran.

One of the worst thumb jobs ever.

A fighter can lose an eye like that, but as we all know Davey lost everything far too soon.

Duran should have been disqualified as that low blow on Buchanan was intentional, and he went under and up on Kenny, it wasn't a borderline shot but way under the cup and on purpose.

Hamed got humiliated real good. Barrera even hammered his head in the ring post while simultaneouly butt-ramming him. Pretty much ended his career, as his whole fight style was based on his aura of confidence and invincibility.

For a great fighter, Duran has several humiliating, embarrassing losses. He should have quit fighting when he was cleaning Hearns' shoes with his tongue.

It was in a book on a Kindle I owned that has since suffered a shattered screen. Let me dig it up. It exists, I swear. Jimmy suggested the book.

Mosley versus Forrest. Not only did Mosley's aura of invincibility get taken away on this night, but he got throughly dominated, beaten up, and was made to yell out in pain, something that has been a very rare occurance in the sport. In fact I don't recall any other fighter yelling in pain during a fight. It took Mosley years to get back to some semblance of himself as far as being a very good fighter, but basically he was never the same talent again after this fight.

RJJ versus Tarver. Maybe the Johnson KO was worse, but Tarver did it first. Once that aura of invincibility is gone, it's got to be a big embarrasment. Roy was KO'd with the one hitta quitta and it seemed Tarver had permanently cracked the china. After that it was all down hill from there as Roy's chin seemed to break every time he climbed in the ring.

Wlad Klitchko versus Corrie Sanders. Wlad was supposed to be this amazing offensive talent and Sanders was supposed to be just a light day at the office for him. Sanders obviously didn't get the memo as he proceeded to beat Wlad from ring post to ring post and for all his skills Wlad just couldn't stand up to a guy who was too physically imposing for him. It was an extremely embarrasing defeat for Wlad as he'd just gotten his ass handed to him in front of his countrymen, brother, as well as "millions of fans watching around the world." Wlad's aura of invincibility was gone and finally too was all the hype that had been following him.

According to his autobiography Leonard was delighted to hear that the ring was 21 ft but he didn't make such demand. It could have been someone of his camp of course but I doubt it.

Anyways, when Leonard fought his fight, he was always going to beat Duran

    Leonard didn't dominate Duran...

And in the first fight, he was forced to fight Duran's fight. He wasn't given any choice.

    This website doesn't work.

Ugo - Leonard physically couldnt have 'fought his fight' in an 18 foot ring and he'd have had much more limited success running away like a shameless bitch in a 20 foot ring. The ring size made a telling difference.

RJJ-Tarver II was mega humiliating for Jones not because of what you wrote, but because of the all the excuses for the close first fight, the talk of RJ coming back amd most of all, because of the infamous ''You got any excuses tonight Roy?''. With that, Tarver painted himself in a corner, it was either him or Jones who was gonna be a laughingstock. Luckily for him, his gamble paid off big time.
