    Hopkins?

Ok...this response tells me that people have different criteria to myself when talking about styles.

    To clarify....

When I think of aesthetically pleasing, I'm referring to the way they stand, block, move, throw punches. Visually is their style of fighting pleasing?

Many of y'all seem to be referring to their tactics and abilities in the ring. That's NOT what I thought this thread was about. If it is....the thread is BULLSHIT, with all due respect. lol

Hopkins is the prime example. Frazier is another.

Hopkins had dodgy tactics (holding and hitting etc)....which sometimes made his fights unwatchable....but the man's style was/is TEXTBOOK BEAUTIFUL to watch from a purist's standpoint.

Jones on the other hand showed speed, movement, counterpunching brilliance...but his style of fighting was ugly.

So am I wrong in my assessment of this thread? Is it about the WAY guys threw punches, moved, etc.....or is it about the tactics and abilities they displayed?

 I forgot about that guy. Most Downs-esque fighter ever, but he managed to stop Jeffrey Resto and Vivian Harris.. iirc he stopped Harris with some freakish punch to the chest. That was on the Mayweather/Gatti undercard

^^ was about to mention him as well

He hit him with a left hook to the chin, then ran across the ring to try to hit him when he was down.

His whack-a-mole headbutt at the 2:47 mark is epic.

Sure..but is that limited to the style of fighting (the LOOK of the way he fights)....or do the results have anything to do with it? Because honestly Cdogg, your arguments for Frazier seem to be about how he avoided punches and then knocked people out. Do you really think his STYLE of punching and moving was pleasing to the eye?

Andre Ward, clearly least unwatchable pfp and has added distinction of the least pfp of either watchable or unwatchable.

aside from the john ruiz/wald pussy/late career hopkins/ricky hatton type fighters -

    joe calzaghe
    juan diaz
    oscar larios
    kassim ouma

the "volume punchers" (ie, throw a million powder-puff punches per round style & just try to overwhelm your opponent with 'volume')

I guess it depended on the opponent. Against guys who came TOWARDS him like Pavlik and Trinidad, he looked great. Against guys who played different tactics, he had mixed results.

After 2001, most of his fights were PAINFUL to watch. Wrestling, holding, little if any punching, etc.

His fights against Joe and rematch with Roy are prime examples of this.

Some of you cunts are full of shit. Nobody moves better for a big man than Wlad, effortless. Also his left hooks and right hands are very easy. No effort, no sheer loading-up and grunting like some of these heroes of yours.

This sums up Floyd perfectly...from an article on Grantland...

Over the next decade, Mayweather built his career carefully, choosing his opponents and picking his spots. He was forever self-contained, in control. Some people found his way of winning boring, and even contrary to the spirit of prizefighting. He chased points instead of knockouts. He wasn’t the only boxer who found success with a defensive style. Pernell Whitaker, Willie Pep, Andre Ward — there were other boxers who had won by not losing. But Mayweather was the best at it. He drained the blood from a fight. Instead of aggression, he offered mastery. Instead of the thrill of violence, banality. Instead of fighting, boxing.

I thought Frazier was brilliant to watch. I love that bobbing and weaving, crouching style, with the massive left hook that can be unleashed at any moment.

Yeah, tapping himself in the forehead like somebody with a memory problem while catching just about every shot coming his way, brilliant. Nobody fell quite like Frazier either. Sometimes he even bounced like 200lbs of bouncing sharecroppers son. Then he would do a little jig in the spot, all the time subjecting his forehead to chinese glove torture.
