Whether it's true or not, the saying I heard often was 'most successful heavyweights need to have either a good chin or big punch to go far' but what about those guys who couldn't or didn't have the latter? Name 'em.
Chris Byrd. Evander Holyfield. James Toney Billy Conn really should be on the list, his 12 rounds upright with Joe Louis might just be the best effort of a featherfisted guy of all time.
Of course difficult to define, did Ali have a big punch or not for example. I assume his punch was big enough so that he won't qualify, which also disqualifies guys like Holmes who didn't have huge one-punch power. It would need to be a guy who is either a real slickster or a guy who outworks his opponents with work rate. From the champions, these seem to be among the poorer ones, such as Spinkses, Braddock, Sharkey etc
There has to be some limit to Marciano's 185lb "Power"..........as far as heavyweights go, he's got to be the lightest-hitting hard-hitter. It's just so hard to get past a 1 punch KO in the 13th round.............it elevates him to a status his power probably didn't warrant, but it's there, nonetheless.
