If De La Hoya's performance wasn't a master class why couldn't Tito offer up more? After all it wasn't a master class.

Losing to Hopkins isn't shameful in itself, but his performance was. Biggest fight of the year and Tito gets absolutely dominated. Antwun Echols did more to warrant a rematch in a fight nobody cared about.

Tito lost "some snap" when he faced Wright. He got schooled plain and simple.

Cotto wouldn't have beaten any of those three imo, but would not have been outboxed and humiliated like that either.

I think it's safe to say Hopkins was just a taaadddd bit more "up" for Tito than Echols. When he was up in the Echols rematch, he beat Ech like a cheap whore.

Don't fool yourself. Cotto doesn't see the later rounds against the 01 Hopkins. B-Hop would be right back in prison after he was done with Miguel. Not a competitive fight, AT ALL.

Cotto is competitive against a prime Oscar....... but gets stopped late.

dont think that Oscar stops him late, as he also had a tendancy to fade down the stretch. I would actually pick cotto against DLH.

I'm with X here. Cotto has always been crazy over-rated on this forum. :nono:

    Trinidad's a bad style match-up for Cotto.

I have no problem with someone saying Cotto is overall a superior fighter, in spite of not having the same punching ability. But let's be honest, Marg without the wraps gets battered by Trinidad. Two totally different classes of fighters, Margarito was a bum.

Tito was thoroughly outboxed, looked clueless and was totally undressed. Cotto has NEVER looked like that against any fighter, including Mayweather Jr. Imagine how dumb Tito would've looked against Floyd

Trinidad absolutely knocks Cotto out... I'd bet everything on it

Cotto is overrated by a lot of people here... He's not a great fighter by any stretch of the imagination... He's a good fighter who has a had a good career in a shitty era (at these weight classes) ... Every one of the 4 top 90s Welters whups him clearly, IMO... not even a contest... He'd have his hands full with Oba Carr.

Hopkins? Wright? forget it... I would pick Vargas to beat him, too.

Cotto might look more "skilled" while being comprehensively beaten by guys like Hoya, Wright, Hopkins, but he's getting whupped just the same and probably stopped in two of those fights

What any of that has to do with how a guy like him does against Trinidad is beyond me... Cotto doesn't have the range or backfoot skill to do what Hoya did to Trinidad and there's no way he is tough enough to survive going after him... He gets hit and he gets hurt and he gets stopped... I wouldn't put a nickel on his chances

Yup. Also, for some reason people seem to have this misconception that Tito was a sloth or something. Tito had faster hands than Cotto, and more range. Tito had ELITE stamina, Cotto is notorious for fading late. Cotto's never had a sturdy chin, and never been a defensive genius. I'd like for somebody to explain to me how he'd beat Tito.

Based on what, exactly? Cotto is such a formidable 154 pounder? Vargas gave better fights to Hoya, Trinidad and Wright than Cotto ever would... you can bet your house on it

I wish I had seen this Cotto the rest of these dudes have been watching, he sounds like an amazing fighter

The one I watched is solid, unspectacular, vulnerable, sorta dumb, has never beaten even a near-great fighter, has lost clearly to the only great fighters he's faced, both of whom were far greater fighters at weight classes lower than the ones they whupped him in

You and I see the same fighter. It seems we're the only two on this forum who see this fighter.

Everybody else sees a "4-Time" champion. What's funny is, Cotto's never been recognized as "the man" in any division he won a belt in. And it's not that hard to pick up a belt in the current boxing landscape.

Cotto's the perfect definition of a "very good" fighter who's not quite deserving of being labeled "great".

Nobleart's starting to feel a little ignored. Nobleart might have to go all "Misery" on somebody, and start talking in the 3rd person to get some attention around here. :nono:

Whoops, my bad. Well, the three of us see the same fighter.

In all my years of watching Cotto, never once have I said to myself "Damn, that's a great fighter."

He is too technical and smart for Vargas. He would destroy him to the body. If tito didnt swing wildly after being excited from the first to knock downs, tito would have gotten him out of there much sooner. Cotto isnt a stupid fighter. He would get beat by Tito, but he is still smarter than him.

If winning 4 titles in 4 weight divisions, let alone being the first puerto rican to do it doesnt get you respect as a great fighter, i dont know what will.

Is he an all time great? Nope. But he is a great fighter nonetheless
