Larry Merchant: “Do you feel disappointed in this, your last fight?†Marco Antonio Barrera: “I’m sad because I lost in the end …†Saturday – October 6th, 2007 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada - Marco Antonio Barrera (W 63 - KO 42 & L 6) closed out an amazing 18-year career that has given us some of the greatest fights we’ve ever seen. His opponent was current Super Featherweight Champ (130 lbs), and Super Star - Manny “Pac Man†Pacquiao (W 45 - KO 35, L 3 & D 2) and this was either going to be Barrera’s long awaited and brutal revenge for his 2003 loss against Pac Man, or this was going to be a repeat of Manny swarming all over Marco, but this time sending him into that final goodnight – retirement. http://fightbeat.com/article_detail.php?AT=511 (full story)
Um... what happened to EVERY post that was previously in this thread? :dunno: :: I don't have much to say on the article, it's basically a Barrera love letter thinly disguised as a partial post-fight report. But I do have to ask... What exactly is Manny Pacquiao champion of? The article claims him to be Super Featherweight champ, as if it's universally regarded. The only title I know of that he has is the WBC international title.
that's what's funny about Pacquiao. He claims he don't need tittles yet pays sanctioning fees for some shitty version of the wbc. At least he should pay for a world tittle which actually shows up on his record. ::
We'll let's not forget that Pacquiao was robbed of a victory over the current Super Featherweight champion, Juan Manuel Marquez, because Burt Clements botching up the scoring of a round. So it could be argued he's the champ. Or maybe Buster screwed it up :: cupey
You can say that - but Pacquiao was already FEATHERWEIGHT champ in that fight (beat Barrera, who beat Hamed, who beat a zillion titlists during his reign). So he still left with the fight with the same status in which he entered. Anyway, hopefully Arum and GLH just fast forward to Pac-JMM II and not pussyfoot around any longer. This stuff with Manny struggling to make 130 reeks of Arum wanting to keep Marquez out of the picture for the sake of further satisfying his own agenda - freezing out Nacho purely out of spite.
that Arum agenda makes alot of sense. Damn near everyone has been asking for that marquez/pacquiao rematch. I'm talking fans, and boxing writers. Only fool who doesn't want it is Arum. If Soto beats Guzman It wouldn't surprise me if Arum tries to make that fight instead.
both come forward fighters that throw alot of punches and hit hard is a bad fight? :dunno: neither of these guys are boxing wizards so matching them up with similar style fighters makes for the best fights.
