117-111 is a bit wide, but 116-112 is perfectly reasonable.

Basically these TV morons are saying that because Paul Smith didn't die, he won.

Martin "Maths Book" Murray had it a draw and plays the "Germany" card.

Nathan "Knocked Out" Cleverly had Smith 2 rounds up after 10 and says AA won the last two rounds and it was a draw also.

Paul Smith is now talking...."Its Shermany Innit"

Paul, you lost, just because the cards were wide doesn't mean you won and were robbed, it means you lost.

Smiff lost clearly. Watt is an absolute moron - he couldn't score a fucking bingo card.

    "Schmiff"

Baker tried hard but his alter-ego Schmiff decided to get hit a bit much.

Right man won. Scorecards were way too wide though, but the right man won. No need to do it again. Was a pretty shite fight to be perfectly honest.

I can't stand sky commentators so I watched the fight on youtube with German commentators.

It seems that these commentators are now assuming some sort of post or role which goes beyond the actual event. You could see that these guys had the agenda all night long and were hard at work from the 8th round on.

Smith had a good 8th or 9th round I think it was where he targeted the body often and found it. He should have done that ALOT more.

This is true, and it was used to create this impression that AA was wilting.

Smith was unable to keep it up as AA was tagging him cleanly a lot.

This. I think it had to do with Abraham's strength though, Smith wasn't able to go inside in the early rounds since he was getting hurt, then when Abraham was getting a bit tired Smith did some good work

This is the case. THe commentary dudes tried to make out that Smith was beginning and ending the rounds strongest, and in between, was dominating.

By the 8th, he was already in a hole.

I didn't see the fight or highlights. I eent to boxrec today and saw the article below which reminded me of this thread. I only copy and pasted a portion of it. It's right on the front page (at the time of this post) if you want to read the entire piece.

I saw an interesting MORI poll the other day: according to it, apparently, British people believe that 24% of the population is Muslim, that 31% of the population are immigrants and that 27% of social security is claimed fraudulently. It was pointed that in fact only 5% of the population is Muslim, that a maximum of 15% of the population is an immigrant and that less than one per cent of all social doled out in the UK is wangled by the undeserving.

I mention all this not to rub your nose in the ignorance, mean-spiritedness and xenophobia of the Great British Public, but rather because I've heard many people scream at the terrible injustice done Paul Smith in the weekend's match with Arthur Abraham for the erstwhile Papa Smurf's WBO supermiddle title in the champion's home country of Germany.
(For what it's worth, I watched the fight the next day, with what I believe to be Russian commentary, and arrived at the same score as Mr Houston, 116-112 to the champion. I did catch a few rounds of the SKY highlights, but had to turn off the sound after a few minutes, otherwise I might've ruptured something laughing.)

Though the advertising industry apparently spends millions a year on studies to prove to people that it doesn't actually have an insidious effect on our lives, anyone with half a brain surely follows the receipt of that “fact” with the question: why then, if it doesn't work, do businesses, governments and other institutions spend billions a year on advertising?

It's best to ignore their protestations, in other words, and also to acknowledge that if you watch boxing in a language you understand and are interested in keeping score then you must accept that the mediation—flashy computer game graphics, blow-dried stiffs, paid shills, twats sat ringside with a 1980s Nintendo controller pressing a button in an attempt to “scientifically count punches”—that the sporting contest undergoes affects your ability to make an informed judgement about what is transpiring in the ring. Or, in the case of Saturday night, you have to accept that mediation's influence over rather more basic stuff, like which fighter won the fucking contest.

It's not any better watching boxing on channels from America. The company line is sure to be toed just as thoroughly, plus you have to tolerate the omnipresence of improbably coiffured talking heads like Jim Lampley, the HBO commentator who surely missed his calling as a presenter of late-night infomercials on The Shopping Channel. Every time he appears on the screen I assume I'm about to be flogged a comforting elixir for my piles or a handy device to remove bothersome stains from my ceiling. Never trust a man, as I wish my mother had told me, whose teeth look like they've been seen to by Domestos and whose skin has been irradiated until it's the same shade as high-visibility safety workwear.

The thing is that SKY are really, really weird when it comes to UK fighters. If the UK fighter is against anyone at home, they tend to be pretty biased towards the UK fighter. If the UK fighter is in Europe somewhere, the same applies. But when the UK fighter is up against a Yank, then the shilling turns entirely, and almost no stone goes unturned in finding something to praise the Yank. If the same fight is in the US, then the UK fighter has lost before he starts, regardless of how the fight pans out. Even if the UK fighter wins by KO, then he has been 'lucky' or will certainly have been 'miles behind on the cards'.

    It's infuriating.

I also believe that the useless braindead old fuck Jim Watt is a lot to blame for this. That cunt comes into every card with a preconceived idea of who is going to win/who he wants to win and that's all he gives a fuck about - the entire fight is a complete irrelevance as he sits ringside, wrinkled cock-in-hand, shameless tossing off whilst proclaiming the victory of his preferred fighter.

He ruins absolutely every single card he commentates on (i.e. almost all of SKY's boxing broadcasts). He is literally 'unlistenable'.

Cleverly-Bellew 2 on PPV. Fuck that. I'm not paying £15 odd for that shite. Feels like Hearn is getting greedy putting these events on PPV.
