Are we seriously throwing a fit over this? When a shorter man gets on the inside you tie him up. This is boxing 101 and a tactic that is older than Jesus.
Porter apologists are ignoring the fact that Brook hurt Porter several times, and Porter never had the LEAST bit effect on Brook at any point.
I agree do what you have to in the ring if thats your best chance of winning, but when you get a victory in that fashion spare me that bullshit speech at the end
If Porter actually had legit skills, he would have been able to nullify Brook's inside holding. He doesn't. So he got clinched on the inside, and outboxed from the outside. Period. Not the end of the line for Porter though. I'd still like to see him fight someone like Guerrero, or Danny Garcia. Maybe Porter vs Maidana after Chino loses the rematch.
People say that Brook was initiating all the holding because he would grab Porter. But Porter's style is like Miley Cyrus, to come in like a wrecking ball and keep throwing punches inside. He'll do that over and over and over. Part of Brook's gameplan was obviously tie him up once they got chest to chest. Porter had absolutely nothing from the outside and it wasn't all down to height/reach. A tough fight to judge because you had one fight landing clean shots and the other as the aggressor the entire time. I thought Brook did enough to make Porter ineffective for at least half of that fight and had him a point ahead. Bernstien also made a good point. Those stiff jabs that Brook would land when Porter was rushing in (early to mid rounds) didn't back Porter up but they disrupted his punching coming in and contributed to his inability to land cleanly.
Long as that bum Khan don't get the fight. Even though Floyd has lost a step, Brook is an easy fight for him. At this point, it's gonna be aggression that beats Floyd. Not a methodical counter puncher like Brook.
Devon Alexander is real butt hurt on Twitter. Trashing Porter. Porter beat the Hell outta Devon The Fake. Let's just see Khan vs Alexander. Shoot the winner, and drown the loser. Boxing wins.
You'll never in your life hear me call Maidana an elite fighter. He gave an aging great fighter a rough fight. That's about it.
I wouldn't pick Marquez over any young gun at this point. He couldn't even KO Mediocre Mile High. I think Porter would decision Marquez.
Young guns :: newporter must be a paintball gun. He couldn't even ko Julio Diaz. The guy is predictable and made to order for marquez
Porter isn't anything special, but I think he'd be too strong and active for Marquez. Bare in mind, at least Brook is a real welter. Marquez is not. But hey, who knows? Maybe old man Marquez does punch holes in him.
Floyd is in his comfort zone and has no desire to start fighting overseas at this point. he fights at the MGM in May and September until he hangs them up. A more likely scenario is Pacquiao-Brook in the UK. Assuming Brook isn't now locked into Showtime.
Pac-Brook will never happen either. Next time Brook fights in the states, Showtime will likely want it be against Thurman. Or of course, Brook-Khan in the UK.
Porter can beat Guerrero. I can admit being wrong about Garcia-Porter though. Danny would have a counter left hook field day on Porter.
Happens every time a British fighter is up against a Yank in a world title fight. It's really weird, but it consistently happens. MTF
I think Wlad does quite a lot of fighting and throws a lot of quality punches. He will also face anyone and fights often. Its unfair to throw him in with Khan and Brook.
Wlad's probably the worst of the lot; all the more so because he throws such quality shots and there's so seldom any need for it. The Mormeck fight. Fucking, fucking...
Khan has far more balls than Wlad. Just less talent. Heart isn't Khan's problem. Khan's problems are that he's chinless, has no defense, no ring smarts, and no ability to fight inside. BUT, Khan's not a pussy.
Brook and Khan weren't gifted with the same natural tools and talent that Wlad has, and they're STILL more watchable. That should tell you something.
