Yes and no. People don't really know Chavez jnr....BUT..they know SENIOR. Knowing senior is what sold the fight.
Yeah I kind of realised that even as I was writing the post. Him bearing the Chavez name is one thing, but another was simply that it was two name Mexican fighters, and it was clear in the build up the Mexicans were really getting into the fight.
I agREED with this. It will make close to 1 million buys, but no more, mainly because the fight has not been as hyped as the Floyd vs McGregor. Sad.
And does anyone know the last really huge PPV fights outside of Mayweather? Mike Tyson's's fights - more than 20 years ago, usually around 1-1.5 million buys. How sad for boxing the the biggest PPV events since have featured the most safety-first, least risk-taking cunt of a boxer of are times.
THIS... He's the SON of "JC Superstar", THE Biggest Name in the History of Mexican Boxing...When Triple G Signed to Face Chavez Jr. on PPV, Jr. was the Draw... There's INTEREST in Triple G for Sure, but in NO Way is he a "Draw"... REED
Could the shitty decision end up helping Golovkin's drawing power in some way? When Lewis got robbed against Holyfield it felt like he finally stepped out of Bruno's shadow and became something of a household name in the UK.
You would think so, but it didn't seem to help Kovalev. That said, it was telling how Canelo was booed seemingly by his fans in the building.
Hmm, interesting, was just curious as Golovkin seems like he was on the cusp of becoming a big name in the US, and wanted to know if the stink the result kicked up might actually end up raising his profile amongst more casual fans. That definitely happened with Lennox over here.
Was gonna say "nice!", but then I remembered that 2m households would have seen a shitty decision and a large percentage would have said "same old boxing, fuck this shit".
