I recently rewatched PBF/Pac. I was surprised at how entertaining I found it. That said, PBF did his best to make it boring. Here are my observations: I was surprised at the number of clean left hands pac landed and was able to shake up pbf with Pbf did A LOT of holding. This was his primary means for neutralizing pac's offense Amazed at how spooked and defensive pbf was in the fight, given his obvious size advantage It was surprisingly difficult for pbf to land on pac Was weird; in the broadcast i saw, the only corner it showed was pbf's. Is that because i watched it on showtime? Hbo commemtators maybe overcompensated by exaggerating pbf's success and dowbplaying pacs After 6 rounds, lederman had it even, but gave pbf something like 4 or 5 of the last 6 Pbf definitely felt pacs power Pac i thought was relatively sharp. His output was low but that's to be expected against pbf. Again, fight was surprisingly entertaining, in spite of pbf. Some nice chess on display imo.
I had it 8-4 for Floyd but it was a bore to watch it. Floyd's height and reach advantage allowed him to stay away from any serious exchanges, but to me Floyd has actually looked VULNERABLE in his years at 147. He was definitely shaken up by Pac whenever Manny landed clean and Pac has not been the same puncher he was before Ariza left camp... That said.. A boring affair. Glad they never rematched.
These numbers are at serious odds with compubox, correct? This suggests possibly one of the things pbf does well is to fool judges he hasn't been hit when in fact he has.
I found the fight entertaining. I was much slower than many would have hoped for ( including me) but it was a good chess match. One thing though...pac was equally responsible for it being slower paced. He seemed unwilling to throw and often backed off voluntarily because he was nervous about the possible incoming. I think PBF struggled with him a little early, as his primary tactic coming in was to land the lead right hand or counter with the right hand. It wasn’t working as well as he hoped. After the 5th round he discovered the check hook and realized that this was the weapon that worked. Once he found it...that was the end of the matter.
Pac's activity was significantly reduced in part by pnf's holding though. Pbf moved a lot to get away from pac but when he wasn't doing that, he was tying him up.
Correct and correct. Now, for the record, I don't believe Manny won - but I do believe the fight was much closer than many people seem to think. Certainly there was no schooling going on, as seems to get bandied around with every Floyd fight. And if you check out some of this guy's other punchcount videos, they are actually pretty spot on and objective, have a look at the Bradley and Horn videos. And I've been saying this for years, but Floyd is good at disguising being hit, but also of equal importance - he has an uncanny knack of making his opponents look silly, even in stretches of the fight he's actually losing. He is so slippery with such good, borderline psychic defence, that inevitably once or twice per round he'll make his opponent look silly and amateurish. This can fool you into thinking Floyd is in control and winning, even in a round where he's actually been outlanded. Pacquiao is the opposite. He often lands when he sort of, shouldn't land, off balance, from weird angles. I mean, watching the above punchcount video, Pacquiao landed shots I really don't remember him landing, not big shots, but clean scoring shots, even when he was mid movement, or slightly off balance and seemingly out of position. And conversely, Pacquiao has never been good at rolling with punches or disguising being hit, so when he does get hit, it's really obvious, especially because he's usually rushing forward. Pacquiao has never got enough credit with judges, Floyd has always got too much.
Glorified sparring session between two guys who didn't really want the fight... boring and tepid shit
Agreed, awful fight, but I dow agree with MWS and thought it was super close. Definitively not a shcooling
I'll wait for when our supercomputer overlords can create the 2009 version which woulda meant something. Oh and fuck floyd.
No reason to ... it wasn't an honest effort from either man... a high level sparring session as I expected, which is why I didn't blow $100 on it
I agree though that the Floyd nutlickers thay act like it was some schooling or great performance from their hero are disgusting... Floyd won but it was no schooling, he was just as terrified as pac
Keep in mimd, i literally just watched it. Whereas you haven't seen it for years. Trust me. Pbf ran a lot in it. And held a lot. He was the far bigger culprit.
Go back to the rbr thread for that fight... you and one or two others were already saying that same shit the night of the fight Pacquaio barely tried, he was afraid and didn't want to be there ... neither did mayweather ... disgusting fight from two reluctant, monied stars
Terrified, alright. How much fuckn cash did they make? Pair of little freaks. Wouldnt last 2 rounds against a prime Morlock.
According to TMZ, a postfight physical revealed that one of his testicles had been replaced by a labia... actually morphing during the bout
I never did watch the fight but for those who did and using that fight as a barameter who do you think would have won when both were in their prime, at their best?
I always picked Floyd but unlike some I never believed it was some foregone conclusion. It would have been close either way.
