Even though it is still dark and dreary, I'm trying to get my 5-8km run in early in the morning. I did it today at 5:00am even though it was -19 degrees celsius, and it wasn't too bad. It definitely sets your metabolism for the whole day.

I never played baseball in the majors, Neil. You must have me confused with someone else.:finger:

This morning was the second morning run. Even though it was supposed to be just -6 degrees celsius, the windchill made it feel like -25. My face has windburn from running with the wind lashing my face. Still, tomorrow is the three day hump of running. You make it past that, and you'll do it every morning.

No, my running doesn't cause that. My rope skipping does.

I've been doing tabata jump knee tucks twice a week. 8 minutes total cardio! :mj: I probably walk about 25 miles a week though.

Well, this morning it was freezing rain, so I'm doing my run after work instead. Since it is after work, I'll be doing 8km instead of 5km. Then tomorrow morning will be the usual early morning 5km.

Here the entire public use miles/feet/stone/pounds/inches etc and there's a monolithic media conspiracy to use nothing but metric. As nutty as that sounds, I mean it quite literally. It's really strange.:scratcher:

I don't have a track near me, Rooster. I could measure out a mile, but it would be an approximation. My guess is you have me beat.

Anyways, I somehow slept wrong on my neck and it's jacked up. Looks like no running today, which is too bad because I had a great run yesterday.

It was a good experiment, but Daylight Savings Time is about to ruin this for me. I'd like to continue running at 5 in the morning, but with the clocks being set forward, it'll set sunrise later, and I don't feel like surprising a deer or a bear. Looks like it's back to afternoon jogging for me.

how long did it take you to run 5km buddy? like 30 mins? if i'm doing a casual run i'd do 5km in about 23 mins; a hard run, 21 mins. that's who i am, buddy.

No, it takes me longer than 30 minutes to do 5km. More like 35-38 minutes average. The road is uneven and icy, so I take my time. The scenery is pretty though---farmer's fields, the occasional barn, and some wildlife.

5km is about 3 miles, so you're averaging 7 minutes per mile for 3 miles? If you're not joking, that's way better than I'm likely to do. You'd be doing better than a 7-minute mile for the first one, no doubt. I could barely do a 6-minute mile when I was 100lbs in high school.

Meh, it gets me out and about, and then I come home and climb rope. I have no complaints about it. Some of us aren't built for speed. :)

sorry to be so antagonistic buddy. dont' know what's up with me lately; think maybe getting older has made me settleinto a sort of grouchiness at some times...

yeah i can knock out several 7 min miles in a row, although i have to push it. my best half-marathon time i ran an average of 7 mins 18 seconds every mile for 13 miles (20km). that was on a pretty bad route too, up and down a few hills. got the suzhou half-marathon in a few weeks; hoping the flatness of a chinese city will mean i can do a better time.

LOL. Don't sweat it. I just thought you were busting my balls for fun. I'm just a slowpoke country roadrunner, but it does give me time to think and it's fairly hilly. The terrain is uneven as it's uphill most of the way there, but that gives me a break on the way back.

Is it true, rooster? Are you like one of those hardcore runners who have skinny, emaciated bodies and huge 'Rosewell-alien'-esque heads with sunken eyes?

It's true. When I was 130lbs or so, I could run pretty good. I came in second in our school for cross-country running, but that's because the usual 1st place guy was running against a newcomer for our school and got blown away, puking his guts out from trying to keep too fast a pace against this other guy.

As it turns out, the guy he ran against went to the Olympic trials in the 400m and the 800m. He was built like a whippet and could run as fast as anybody I've ever seen live in person. Un-fricken-believable.
