She ambled through the middle of the pitch without any tackle whatsoever. Then she hit a decent shot into the middle of the goal, where the hopeless 'keeper, who was totally mispositioned, dived under it.

Decent forward play. Horrible, horrible defending.

Agreed but last week was a bugger....totally deprived of the opportunity to train for 50% of it, the heatwave, and the nagging after effects of the first weeks dieting. The Covid made me want to knock back junk grub.

Losing any weight is great, not having relapsed at all is the real bonus.

Just back from our mid-run for the week. We do a short (6-8k) speed work, a mid-distance (10 - 12k) tempo run and a distance (12 - 15k) stamina builder. Training the missus for Great North Run 2023 from a standing start - she'd not run even 5k in Jan this year. This pace will get her round a half marathon at around two hours. The plan is to build the speed endurance to get her there. Will take another 8 - 10 months. The name is obviously a pseudonym (privacy is important etc)

That's an impressive time for the distance but she must be very light altogether if 684 kcal was her return on that effort.

    What device are you using?.

I know kcal aren't her goal, I'm just programmed to note that value..

How was the terrain and conditions? Flat tarmac and mild or cross country and hot etc?

I can tell you that cross country and up a hill or on rough ground in heat is just many many times harder....it's not even the same event, really.

By my own extrapolations I could match her rate but only the rate, only pro rata, I'm not at all close to 12k. Maybe 8k at a push but conditions would have to permit.

Edit just saw it's only 17 degs up there. That's a good temp.

I just sent out for food. £9.60 gets you:

    2 small lettuce
1 tub of "Quark" (basically not fit to be called cheese or yogurt)
1 tub of low fat cottage cheese
    1 watermelon
    1 block of cheddar cheese.

I think the timing of my diet, coinciding as it has with Putins War on Cruciferous, Dairy and Ethnic Stereotype Foods, has been most serendipitous.

Aye, she's a skinny wee thing. About five two and 8 1/2 stone. Doesn't get much calorie burn, but she isn't training to lose weight. It's a running programme she needs. We use a Garmin VivoSport. Costs about £100 and does everything you need, running wise. Phone app is free and keeps a good track on all your data.

Today was just a flat-ish road run. We do one cross-country run per week, one road and one trail. We're lucky up here - there are loads of great track and trail runs available with great views and fresh air.

Her pace today was about 9.30 per mile. Steady enough over the distance. I'm old now, so I'm not fast anymore, in truth. Probably 45mins for 10k, maybe? I used to run them in about 40, but that was four or five years back.

Well I'm a firm believer in the old adage that you can't outrun a bad diet. Why make it hard for yourself .

I'm following this guy called Stan Efferding who has basically 3 key points:-

    1. The compliance is the science....no diet, however revolutionary, is worth a damn if you don't follow it. This past two weeks I've been focusing on eliminating stuff like crackers and hidden refined carbs. Like everything in life, I do it in extremis. My cure for nightmares is .....insomnia :Jest:

    2. Calorific deficit. If you're not in deficit, you don't lose weight, which is basically a simplified version of Dorian's Dictum that you "can't get bigger and smaller at the same time".

I find that the best way to be in deficit is to REALLY be in deficit .

    3. 1g of protein per 1lb of mass with the remainder of your calories to be made up of a combination of fat and calories as you see fit.

That puts me in about 1000 calories of protein a day which is around 5 tins of fish but that's still not near 228g. . I'm nowhere near up to that, financially or intestinally :Jest:

Plus I'm developing this fixation now, albeit a good one, with the weight....I just gotta be LOWER than last time.. I wait 7 days for that one big psychological reward and I can't miss out on it, I've got to have it.

Great stuff, I can do the mile in 9.30 but can't do it repetitively.

I've got my mind made up that Jan 1st 2023 I want to be 200lbs.

That gives me a 2lb per week target average weight loss.

Right now I've done 2.6lb and 1.4lb each week, for an average of 2lb per week and as I get fitter I'll have to face the reality of a lower basal metabolic rate but the prospect of greater calorific expenditure through increased athletic capacity.

Obviously having the final week run from Christmas Day to New Year's Eve is hardly ideal :Jest: :Jest:

Murder probe as 34-year-old man stabbed to death in Mortlake

This happened in my part of the World. I also have a feeling that I'm somewhat familiar with the 27 year old woman being held on murder charges..... In short my suspicion is that she's a teacher at a local posh primary school.

And that's why it's all hush hush now since 3 days.

Just a theory that I am thinking in my mind right now.

Klopp never just signs 'good players' does he, he always knows exactly what he's looking for in terms of specific attributes for Liverpools system. Gotta wonder if Haaland was picked out by Pep with as much rigour or if the board just wanted to go glam

Agreed but Haaland I fear is a no-miss no-brainer. That guy is literally the Ivan Drago of football. Will he do it in the depths of despair? Who knows. But most given Saturdays are Apollo Creeds. You just hit these dweebs in the heid and they fall over most obligingly.

I do think there's some element of comfort spending to it too , to try and dispel the stink of what happened against Madrid.

Pep does just generally assume his outfits will have too much for the opposition. Haaland fits that bill.

I recognise this guy, he's always (was) hanging around with the same bird,a proper sketchy couple, real bams, he'd always have some shit bike with him and the local Corner Shop threw them out once when I was in there chatting. They always seemed to be squabbling in some lovers fashion. Seems like she's done him in anyways.

Took on a bit of a boredom challenge today..

90 minutes on the airbike, 15 minute increments, with a VERY short break for fluids at the 15 min mark.

Covid really taking its toll as I was soaked in sweat and had a pain in my nose.

845 calories,30 miles, 90 mins of actual work.

Ive got a BMR of 2200kcal, so 850kcal gives me a 3000kcal allowance.

If I take in 1500 calories,I'm 1500 for the day. That should be 2lbs loss per week if I manage the next 5 days the same.

Stuck in another 7k in Richmond park, only two of the 7 were flat out running, one of them an uphill 1000m over broken ground that took 7mins and the other a finisher on tarmac for 5.5 minutes.

Total calories? Allegedly 700+. Seems optimistic.

But, if it's accurate, I'm at 1600 calories burned for the day, with a Basal rate (requirement) of 2200kcal and an intake of no more than 1500 kcal.

    That's weight loss territory.

Today I'll head out alone and do 10 1k runs with as long in between to recover as i need.

The key target will be to:

    * do 10k of running

    *do respectable times for each.

They say a good time for 1km is 4 minutes. Not a chance. :Jest:

    But I'll try.

Celtic were very good today, the high press in particular was finely oiled and Norwich couldnt get past it. Absolute dominance. Standard dissaray after the avalanche of 2nd hand substitutes but who cares

That should be achievable, really. 2lb a week is good, sensible weight loss.

Nah, that was mostly new manager bounce imo. I like Howe and think he'll do well. He's a marked improvement on the last five clowns we've had. But the form in the second half of last season isn't sustainable with this squad.

This squad is still very thin. Good GKs and now a strong defence. Bruno is mint. Unbelievably good fitba player, that boy. Joelinton seems to have developed into a prime Makele. Wilson is quality. But the rest of the forwards and midfielders are average. If Wilson gets injured - and he hasn't even completed a half season in the last seven, let alone a full one - were back to Chris Wood up top with Almiron running about like a lemming.

With this squad, top ten and a good cup run would be progress. If they add two more attackers of quality before the window closes, then aye, I think trying to get amongst the West Ham/Leicester/Wolves group trying to get into the Conference League becomes a viable target.

I think it depends if you're in contention for top 4 like West Ham were last season at the halfway stage. Could see the owners chucking money on some good players in January to see it through.

I do think there's a marquee signing for Newcastle coming at some stage too, like City did with Robinho. To let the others know they're serious.

Did 5. Had to stop. Face and arms burned. Yellow grass throwing light back. Breathing was really shallow and rapid doubtless cos of Covid.

    Only really recovering now.

Slowest was 6m 10s per 1000m. Got one under 6mins,think it was the 3rd one.

Was shattered Sunday and today so kept that to 7km,6km walking.

Treated Sunday as recovery day, half a dozen boiled eggs, 2 chicken breasts, 2 bowls of all bran made up with hot water.

Really need to ramp it up tomorrow and Wednesday.

I honestly don't think they will. The message is consistent - evolution not revolution. FFP prevents them from just blindly hoying money at it, even if they were kintd to do so.

    It'll be incremental steps.
