Name fighters, past or present, who weren't any good (and not even entertaining), were obviously no good, and yet, because of some slick contract or some miscalculation on the part of promoters, ends up on TV an unduly number of times (to the dismay of viewers and broadcasters alike): Demetrius Hopkins Allan Green What are some other crap fighters managers and/or promoters have managed to shove down our throats, even though they're mediocre, boring and undeserving? To be precise, the formula here is: Unskilled + Not entertaining + Frequent appearances on TV
He's not "unskilled", but Rocky Juarez has been on HBO way too many times for my liking. I remember hoping Mayweather-De La Hoya would have a good undercard, with so many casual fans watching. As soon as I saw it was Rocky Juarez, I told my friend "this fight will suck". He has some explosive knockouts here and there (Diaz, Espadas). Most of the time I've seen him fight, he's frustrating as hell to watch.
so says the guy who has for years been defending Kermit Cintron, a walking definition of the fighter you are describing
so says the guy who can be nothing but confrontational when it comes to me....apparently, i have you on the defensive.
Hate to Say it, but Damn Near EVERY SINGLE Child of a Former Fighter... Aaron Pryor's Kids, Tommy Hearns' Son, Chavez Jr., etc....& it's Borderline DISGRACEFUL the Way the DAUGHTERS of Past Greats were SHOVED Down Our Throats...Laila Ali, Freda Foreman, Joe Frazier's Daughter... Other than Roy Jones & Tito Trinidad, REED is Hard Pressed to Think of ANY Son of a Former Pro, who Actually Earned GENUINE Respect BEYOND the Famous Last Name... REED:mj:
Cory Spinks and especially Floyd Jr. did well in getting genuine respect beyond the last name. Cory is obviously far inferior to his uncle and not as famous as his father was, but had a more consistent career than his father. I think it's different for cases like Roy and Tito. Same with Oscar. Their fathers weren't HOFers like Hearns, Chavez, and Pryor, so you don't think of their families when they fought.
dude, you complain about fighters all the time... pretty much 90% of your posts are about why one fighter or another is overrated or sucks or is a coward, but then you randomly back fighters like Cuntron, who is easily one of the most horrible, uninspiring, unimpressive, overexposed fighters in history I'm saying your position is ridiculous when you think so highly of a guy like Cintron It would be like me complaining about black, skilled southpaws all the time
Agreed. Chavez's son is clearly a creation, as far as being an actual contender (let alone a champion; he's apparently unwilling to prove us wrong). Witherpoon Jr.? J.H. (Junior Hearns)? Jackie Fucking Foreman !!! Joke !!! But let's not forget Kobe Bryant, Clay Matthews and other off-spring of pro athletes who have out-shined their parents.
Cintron has embarrassed a few fans. And he wears his heart on his sleeve. But he's a bonified knock-out puncher, was clearly a victim of Margarito's hand-wraps, and as far as the Williams fight goes, it's weird and inconclusive enough to warrant another chance. The difference between a guy like Cintron and someone like Chavez Jr. is that Cintron has taken on the best fighters in his division(s), and that his appearances have been conditioned on his beating ranked guys. You don't like Cintron, back-dropped against all you have seen and whatever figure in your life you find him similar to. But the fact is, he's no Chavez Jr. He's no Chazz Witherspoon. He's no Marvis Frazier. He's a guy who worked to get where he's at, and who has the talent to be there.
Good call on Generation Never. Camacho Jr is the absolute worst offender of this, IMO. Fortunately, he's squandered every last drop of credit and the underachieving fat fuck is now forced to fight off-TV.
Yep... Boxing Fans have Waited for YEARS to See the Typ of AssWhipping that David Lemiux Layed Upon Camacho, Jr.... REED:kidcool:
He didn't think he had been knocked out until he saw the replay on the big screen. I was sitting in the first row, laughing my ass off as he watched it. :bears:
no, he absolutely sucks besides, your premise wasn't "guys who are related to other more famous guys" ... it was guys who have been on TV an insane number of times despite not being very good
Well he spent about five minutes being "mad" because the red stopped. Seemed pretty genuine... When he saw the replay, he couldn't deny it anymore. He walked over to Lemieux and either shook his hand or lifted him up.
Cintron played dead against Williams until it was announced he lost the fight. Suddenly, he was better.
It's Funny yet SCARY when a Guy Gets WAXED & has No Recollection of it...But in Camacho Jr.'s Case, it's JUST Funny....Even if David Lemiux Does NATHAN Else the Rest of his Career, he's ALRIGHT w/REED... REED:mj:
He was interviewed the next day and he said the doctor told him not to move, but he was fine. Not to mention the obvious jumping motion that propelled him from the ring ::
Like i said before, if they are telling me not to move and the fight is over, and I AM okay, i dont give a fuck what the doctor says. I jump the fuck up and back in that ring and say lets go. This is your career we are talking about. But this weak motherfucker wanted a way out and he thought he could save face this way. But im a grown ass man, and you cant fucking pull that bullshit over on me.
I can't remember if it was Lamon Brewster or Clay-Bey that he fought, but he was genuinely exciting in that fight. After that, he was exciting for the wrong reasons. ::
