No probably not, but I think he stands out because he was a police officer. Sure there are a lot of corrupt cops out there but he took it to another level. Kind of thing you would more expect out of a police officer in some 3rd world country.

What's with you and your "exactly " Irishman!! Are you trying to tell the Sly that Ralph Fiennes would have spared that shopkeeper...or even left it up to the chance of a coin? Big ugly cavemen still have a little mercy in their souls but those Arian Germans didn't play! Ruthless motherfuckers.

Did Chigurgh kill the accountant or spare him? I always thought the "do you see me?" was more of a rhetorical question, as in "you obviously see me, so that means you die" rather than a "if you say you didn't see me, you live". If it is the latter though then there's a shred of empathy in him.

I don't think he had an ounce of empathy but did have own weird personal code. By that I don't mean how some sadistic killers won't murder children as an example. I don't believe Chigurh would be above that.

    Vader obviously...

Gary Oldman in The Professional. Cottonmouth on Luke Cage!

Waltz in Inglorious Basterds is more of an antagonist than a villain. I don't recall him being especially evil or even mean.

Chigurgh was cold blooded. Darth Vader is one of the most iconic, though.

Kevin Bacon in Sleepers was really good.

Bruce Payne in Passenger 57 was an evil motherfucker.

Yeah, I was about to mention that guy from passenger 57.

To the pilot: "who's in charge?"
    Pilot: "I am"

    Shoots him in the head

To the co-pilot: "who's in charge?"
    Co-pilot: "you are"

    Serious shit!!

I think that there was a survey a year or two ago were Vader was selected by overwhelming majority as the baddest villain in cinema history.

I recently saw a list where he was voted #3 behind Dr. Lecter, and Norman Bates.

Now that I think about it, I dunno if Norman Bates really applies. I wouldn't say that Bates was pure evil. EXTREMELY mentally ill, but just like the dude in Split, he was suffering from split personality disorder.

I dunno if Lecter was PURE evil either. He had somewhat of a code - I mean, didn't he deform Mason Verger because the guy was a child molester? I couldn't envision Lecter murdering a child. He also formed a bond with Starling and would never harm her.

I couldn't envision Chigurh forming a bond with ANYBODY. So for that reason, I'd say Chigurh was more evil than Lecter.

One more villain that deserves mention.... Christopher Walken in True Romance. Was on screen for only one scene, but DAMN he made an impression in that one scene.

"I'm the anti-Christ. You tell the angels in Heaven, that you've never seen evil so singularly personified as you did in the face of the man who killed you."

John Doe was more evil than Chigurh. It's only his lack of screen time that prevents him from topping the list. The way he patiently tortured people over lengthy periods of time was frightening. Not to mention that device he made that guy wear before forcing him to bone that hooker. Far more sick minded than Chiguh. Chigurh was a great villain in a menacing sort of way but he wasn't the most evil.
