Of course you are allowed to judge whatever you please. Free speech and such.

But there are styles in comedy just like there are styles in pop music. Yes, pop music is universal as well and anyone can judge Britney Spears too, but while doing that you should take into consideration whether or not you are the target audience of that particular pop music.

I haven't changed my original view one bit and don't plan to do so. Carry on

    Horrific: Godfrey

And if you don't know who he is, consider yourself lucky. One of the worst black comedians of all time. He made Bill Bellamy look like Richard Pryor.

One of my favorites was Cory Holcomb. I don't see him on shows very often but he was always funny as hell when I saw him.

I agree that music/art is often given a target audience but that is usually something determined by society or even the label/entertainment company. A true artist makes art and often doesn’t do so in a way to target any specific demographic. For instance who is Dave Chappelle’s target audience, or who was Andrew Dice Clay’s when he was at the height of his popularity? A true comedian makes jokes, they don’t make only race jokes, or jokes for women etc. Britney Spears music isn’t for white suburban people, it’s for people who like pop music and those people are all over the world and reside in every race and demographic.

It couldn't have been the same shows I saw. And he may have improved. I haven't seen him in a long time. I saw him about 3-4 x when he was starting out on MTV and VH-1 shows. Over ten yrs ago. That MF was horrendous. I was waiting for the host to walk back out and save him.

I lump it in with all those shows like Cosby Show, Family Ties, Silver Spoons, Diff'rent Strokes. I watched them when I was a kid and liked them. I haven't seen any of them in thirty years.

I didn't realize we were nominating the casts for lifetime achievement awards on this thread.

I watched those too as a kid. Unlike the ones today, the ones in the 80's often had more dramatic elements like when Arnold on Different Strokes was made to watch cartoon porn or when Nancy Reagan showed up to school him about the dangers of goofballs and yellow jackets. And I seem to recall Ricky Shroder shedding tears more than once.

Yeah. Arnold and Dudley were getting molested and there was a laugh track going. Ricky was gambling on football on Silver Spoons. Mike Seaver had his serious motorcycle accident on Growing Pains. Mallorie was getting molested by the uncle and Alex P. Keaton was drunk behind the wheel on Family Ties.

I think every 80's sitcom had a "serious" episode. Benson had one episode where people were getting stabbed and shot and shit.

I never watched Soap. And I have seen about ten episodes of Benson. I thought it was kind of corny.

I remember Benson had a Colin Ferguson episode where Robert Guillaume just goes on a rampage gunning down the whites

Arrested Development’s first 3 seasons are up there. I love The Office (US) in its prime, particularly seasons 2-4.

Married With Children was a favorite of mine growing up, and Al Bundy is one of my favorite TV characters ever. I think I have a No MAAM T-shirt somewhere in my room. Ed O’ Neill got a Hollywood Star, and it’s located in front of a shoe store lol. I was annoyed how he would never get Emmy nominations back in the 90s.

I always found Seinfeld to be more amusing and entertaining than laugh out loud funny. The two plotlines of each episode would always cleverly merge together. I never found Seinfeld’s standup acts to be funny (at least in the show, as I’ve never seen him elsewhere). His jokes would always give a preview into the episode’s plotline, but they never made me laugh.

I was a big fan of Louie, which was a different type of sitcom. It was a comedy with a lot of absurdity, and could be a depressing drama at times.

I also like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Threes Company was never funny. Entertaining yes, but not consistently funny. Though it tried to be.

I like Seinfeld. I think Kramer was annoying. Tried too hard to be funny. And as someone already mentioned it's a hit and miss. Some episodes are actually funny others not so much.

I did enjoy Seinfeld and other US sitcoms but it's just a different style of humour to the UK. My personal favourites in no particular order would be Peep Show, Father Ted, Only Fools and Horses, The Inbetweeners, The Office (UK). I get though that not all humour translates across the Atlantic, in both directions.

My favorite of all time (I didnt think anything would ever top Cheers) is The Office (US.) Of course seasons 8 & 9 were a bit of a struggle without Michael Scott but they did alright and he returned for a great series finale. The character development of over 20 office employees over the nine seasons is what made that come together so brilliantly.

I felt bad for Norman Fell. He wasn't very confident in their spinoff, The Ropers, so he had the producers promise him that if the show failed, they could return to Three's Company.

But after it was canceled, Mr. Furley had been there two seasons so that wasn't happening. The Ropers only returned for one show. The infamous fight between Roper and Furley. 1920's boxing vs fake karate chops.

I shouldn't have made that comment on three's company. I used to watch that show as a kid. Obviously a lot of the humour was over my head.

I probably have the worst taste in sitcoms.

    Perfect Strangers
    Charles in Charge
Vicky the Robot(forgot the actual name)
Family Ties (fan of Alex Keaton)
Dear John(such a stupid show I loved as a kid because of its sexual undertones)
    Different Strokes

Its funny how we view the world differently as we grow old. As a kid I thought Peg from Married children was an ugly old hag. But when I see reruns of MWC I'm like I'd definitely hit it now that big old culo and bodacious tattas, Mrs Bundy was very fuckable lol.
