Fassbender isn't really an A-list actor.

A-list actors are like DiCaprio, Bale, Depp, Pitt, Denzel, true SUPER STARS.

    Fassbender's a quality actor, but he's not yet a Hollywood A-lister.

Bale is not on the level of those guys.

Bale is clearly an A-List actor. Just look at the previews for The Big Short. Star-studded cast, and Bale gets top billing. Over Pitt, over Gosling, and over Carrell.

I liked Skyfall. Spectre bored the shit out of me.

Spectre and the last Mission Impossible movies are similar in that the prior movies were so good it made them seem anti-climatic. There were several laugh-out-loud unintentional moments in Spectre. It's bad when a high point in an action scene garners a massive groan from a full theatre.

Craig is done, bring on Idris.

I want to see Idris Elba get a shot.
    Totally change the scenario.

Either that, or start re-making the book-version movies from 1963 onwards...with someone in the mould of Fassbender or Clive Owen (already turned it down and too old now also).
Fassbender will never do it though. He's too much of an "Act-orr, dahling" to lower himself to Bond.

However, here's a run-down of well-known actos who were either offered the part or wanted it but never got it:

We had this conversation before: Roger Moore was an established actor when he was offered the Bond role.

I'm not so sure about that. I think Royale tends to get overrated. I remember the last time I watched it I found the whole thing a lot more boring than I had previously recalled. The whole falling in love and chasing that woman around really dragged the movie down. I wouldn't be surprised if Skyfall was better than Royale but I would need to watch both again to be sure and I'm not sure I'm up for the challenge.

I proved you wrong. He was a tv star who had multiple cancellations. He was not a major movie actor

Not sure you know the definition of a-list.

He was a well known tv actor for 'Maverick' (3 seasons) & 'The Saint'(7 seasons). Many people, me included, groaned when it was announced that Moore was chosen as Bond. To me, and anyone else with a little memory, he was freaking Simon Templar not James Bond. And when he played Bond, he was just reprising same old Simon Templar, but with more gadgets!

Yeah and TV was not what it is today. It's called the small screen for a reason people who are TV stars were not considered A-list actors.

skyfall was great, because it was different. It actually got into the background of bond. And Bardem was a great villain.

I agree with that - it was different - it wasn't like a typical Bond movie.

That's why, when I watched Spectre two weeks ago, I thought while I was watching it: "this is a typical Bond movie - people probably won't like it as much"
For me, set-pieces are what make Bond movies great: good example is the card-game in Casino Royale - it goes on for like 20 mins? Absolutely fucking spot-on.
The obvious one is the golf-game in Goldfinger.

Skyfall didnt really have any of this...

I bet you Spectre, in afew years time will be re-evaluated.

The house was the set piece. That place creeped me out. And I haven't seen Spectre yet so im not sure if there is connection.

BTW, in Spectre. the car-chase in Rome and subsequent fight with Mr Hinx on the train is Bond's greatest EVER, one-on-one fight....

Bond, Albert Finney and Judi Stench with a few old blunderbusters....whatever.

You'll hate Spectre because you love Skyfall.

    I don't.

Even though you and I could discuss proper movies all day long, I don't think you have that stupid-low-IQ-circuit-breaker-I-Love-This-Fast-&-Furious-shit gene that I have.

I watched two movies at the weekend: one was 'Rosemary's Baby' the other was 'Transporter 3'.

    Go figure....

Spectre Just finished watching it. Liked it a lot. Much better than 'SkyFall' IMO since it is like a throwback to the kind of Bond films Roger Moore used to do, but without the bombastic sets and out of this world gadgets, but a little bit of each too at the same time. Plenty of action; a plot that is easy to follow and finally we see how the big villain got his scar and faded eye. The ending feels like a farewell for Craig as Bond, but could be a hook for a sort of situation as in 'In Her Majesty's Secret Service' in the next one. 8/10
