Overall, I find Seagal films more watchable because of comic relief... he's a horrendous actor who tries to be a quality one.

But for a single movie, I think Kickboxer is better than any Seagal movie.

My thing with JCVD films is that, and just talking about his early films, most of them are extremely good until the final act when they just fuck it up. Kickboxer is an example of that for me...the best example actually.

Sagat...er...I mean...Tong Po....was a kickass character, a true badass! Totally fucked up JCVD's brother and looked like a martial arts version of Ivan Drago. So JCVD gets some hot shot trainer and starts to look great. Well, I was expecting a straight up fight in which JC is close to defeat and then comes back with some fancy move or something. Instead what happens is that his girlfriend is kidnapped ( and his brother I think) and so he has to throw the fight until his brother is safe and then as soon as he realizes his brother is in fact safe he then wins the fight easily. I mean WTF? That was totally unsatisfactory and no way should he have beaten Sagat...er...Tong Po that easily.

Blood sport has some similar shit but to a lesser degree and so does the 3rd film where he's some army guy ( my personal favourite of his films where he's the protagonist )

My favourite JCVD film though is no retreat no surrender when he's the antagonist.

In conclusion...I tend to prefer seagal films because they don't ruin it with such nonsense

I like Van Dame more because he is more athletic, BUT Seagal made superior films: Above the Law and Under Siege shits on anything Van Dame have ever done. And I think Seagal is a major cunt bullshitter in real life.

I think Seagals run from his first movie "Above The Law" up until "Executive Decision" in 1996, is far more entertaining then Jean Claude's, mostly badly dubbed Kung Fu shit from that era.

Seagal has been absolute shit since then however, and JCVD probably has the better overall resume. Also the movie "JCVD" is likely the best film either of them has ever done.

"Above The Law" is called "Nico" in England, but yes that stretch of Seagal films is better than any JCVD stretch. under Siege was excellent too and Marked for Death was lots of fun (although I found myself rooting for my bredrin dem).

Van Damme best film is his most commercially successful, Timecop. That was a freaking good film.
