Tangerine Dream started off the whoke Krautrock phenomenon before that term was actually thrown around by John Peel in the early 70s. Basically, its a mixture of of psychedelic, avant-garde, electronic music, funk, improvisational jazz and world music styles - along the musical explorations associated with art / progressive rock. So, no. Nothing like Bread....or The Eagles.....or Toto.....or Chicago... or Air Supply......or Journey......or REO Speedwagon....or etc, etc
But it is easy listening. Lol. Listen to it while you drink coffee and lament that your life is now half over.
When I was kid a friend an I were looking through a big hassock filled with old albums my parents had from the 60's/70s. I remember laughing when I saw this cover: I asked my parents about it and they didn't seem to remember it very well. Probably bought it, gave it a listen and put it away. They had crapload of albums at the time and probably like a lot of people bought stuff that was new on the shelf of the music store or heard about from somebody. I recall vividly the first time I saw the "Sprockets" sketch on SNL and immediately saying "Man Machine!" even though I had not even listened to a single song. (I guess i thought Kraftwerk was the album title and the band was Man Machine) A number of years later when I was a teenager I ended up listening to it and thinking it wasn't all that bad. Not quite my thing either then or now but, weirdly not quite deserving as the fun I had mocking it.
