Also (I wasn't posting much during the trip) but fair play to Burnley. I was at the match and they brought 5,200 to Goodison Park. Sang their hearts out the whole time. Of course they were facing relegation and they're not very far from Liverpool.

But GODDAMN, what a shabby looking lot. It's like time stood still in Burnley sometime around 1977. They were in the pub with us after the match. Where else can you see a 20 stone, White British man with an afro and sideburns down to his mouth in a donkey jacket dancing his ass off to Bruno Mars. That image will be burned into my memory for life.

When i used to work security i worked a gig at Murrayfield with a crew from Burnley and that blew me away too. Like extras from a mob scene in robin hood prince of thieves. They all sounded like stereotyped/hollywood medieval serfs too, every sentence/response took twice as long as it should. I heard Burnley is basically the poorest town in western europe so i guess anyone with 3 GSCEs leaves.

To my ears, the Liverpool accent is very musical. And it seems like it takes more effort to say basic sentences. The rolling of every "R", finishing every sentence with a high pitch, etc. The same can be said for the way I would interpret a Scottish accent.

And people from north of there (Blackburn, Blackpool, and some of the Burnley people I talked to) sound like they don't have the energy to put forth the effort to speak. Like their words just come out of the mouth and die.

Aye, I think the Irish influence in the big west coast cities (and east london) made the accents more nasal and staccato/fast paced; smaller towns in the UK or east coast places that didn't get the same influx tend to sound more 'homely' or rounded/from the chest. Scouse and Glasgow Irish have similar tone, rhythm, phonetics for instance. If you had Stevie gerrard and Jamie Carragher act out this scene it'd probably sound a bit like the these two guys putting on a different accent

A guy wrote a book about all the accents of England a while back and didn't include the Scouse accent because he said it was an old Lancashire accent that was heavily influenced by the Irish and Welsh.

In America the heaviest accents are on the Eastern seaboard. Baltimore would probably be our Liverpool as that accent stands out even from the people that live in surrounding areas. It's a strange accent. Very difficult to imitate.

Some comedian/prankster invaded a FIFA press conference and threw pile of fake cash at Sepp Blatter saying it was for North Korea's WC bid.

This probably hurt Arsenal's chance of picking up Benzema. He wouldn't have come cheap anyway but i can see RM thinking if Benteke went for 32, Benzema has to be worth 60.

Even with the inflated prices it's easy to justify the price tage for Suarez. Bale, not so much. At least in my view.
