The Prestige - predictable but it honestly wasn't that bad. a lot better than the illusionist as far as recent magician movies are concerned. 7/10

Just more propaganda designed to spin bookstores and flying whatamacallits in a positive light.

The evil Gmorg is nothing if not a metaphor of the West's fear of Central Asian cultures.

Auto Focus: Being so fascinated by true crime stories, I read the story of Bob Crane on crimelibrary.com. He was an actor who was in Hogan's Heroes and was bludgeoned to death years later. Anyway, it's the story about him and the strange, voyeurisitic world he was part of before he was killed. William Dafoe is good as usual as the sleazy friend. Decent flick, nothing special, not horrible either.

Tsotsi: South African film about a ruthless thug who robs and kills, then begins a metamorphosis and a path for redemption after carjacking a woman. The direction is good and the performance by Presley Chweneyage as the title character is excellent. He doesn't speak much so his emotions are conveyed more through facial expressions. I've heard it compared to "City of God" because it's a foreign film about criminals and violence. It is no "City of God", but still a pretty well-made film.

Bloodrayne: Not as bad as Uwe Boll's usual stuff like House of the Dead and Alone in the Dark, but not a great movie. It reminded me of the sword and sorcery shlockfests of the 70s and early 80s.

Hannibal Rising: Rather entertaining. I liked it although it could have been better. Still, it was catchy. The ending was a bit on the soft side, but the character development wasn't too bad.

OPEN SEASON - 5/10 - Not a bad cartoon, but not a very good one. It seems to me that Monsters INC and The Incredibles were the last of the great cartoons and now they're pumping out so many that it's diluted the quality. Just like everything else in this country, greed has ruined it.

I plan to see it. I just said that because I never liked the Gladiator movie very much, I like Braveheart, and Troy much much better.

Braveheart was Decent because like gladiator is had a good story, Troy had great potential but managed to fuck it up, don’t get me wrong Troy is a good movie but I thought it would have been a lot better.

300 also lacks a bit of depth but it makes up for that with the scenery and fights, Troy achieved neither.

Aside from the scenes between Pitt and Bana............."Troy" was awful.

Not sure how you can prefer it over "Gladiator" but to each his own.

The way they photographed Pitt throughout the movie made "Alexander" seem not gay at all.

I rate it slightly above "Troy". Not one of Oliver Stone's more convincing efforts. It's ambitious like "Troy" but IMO just seems to be missing something.

Here's how I rate the recent movies in this genre:

    "Braveheart"
    "Gladiator"
    "300"

    "Kingdom Of Heaven"
    "Alexander"
    "Troy"

"The Messenger - The Story of Joan Of Arc"

IMO Braveheart and Gladiator can be flip flopped at any time...............and I'm not sure if "300" even falls in this category as it's so differant from the others to be honest.

I might have missed some but this is all I can remember right now.

Kingdom of Heaven and Troy both sucked.

Everyone loves Braveheart because it was pretty much the first of this new trend of war movies.

EDIT: Alexander was one of the worst movies I've seen in a long time.

There is no way that Alexander is better than Troy or 300. It is a long, boring, meandering piece of shit. Colin Farrell was woefully miscast as was Jolie.

Troy had it's flaws but was enjoyable nonetheless. 300 is a battle movie. That's it. Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed. It's pissing off alot of people who don't seem to realise it's based on a work of fiction which has loose ties to the battle of Thermopylae.

I prefer both Troy and 300 to Gladiator but I can't really explain it. I liked Gladiator but didn't feel like watching it again. I could watch 300 and Troy again but not Gladiator.

Haven't seen Kingdom of Heaven. Is it worth a watch?

I liked KoH but I saw the directors cut and not the original that came out in theaters. Supposedly the directors cut was much better than the theater version. I liked it as a movie, probably better than Troy but I only saw that once a long time ago. Gladiator was great the first time I watched it but the second time I wasn't as impressed for some reason. I did see alexander, and I thought it was weak.

Payton says to watch the Directors Cut. I saw the normal version and thought it was pretty good but had the potential to be much, much better. Someone else besides Orlando Bloom in the lead would have been a good start.

I've heard the extended version fills in a lot of holes from the original release.

Then again it's probably more of the meandering type of movie so it might not be your cup of tea.....................though I think it's definately way better then "Alexander".

I agree about Farrell and Jolie, what are they about a year apart in actual age and she's his mother? :dunno: They didn't even put makeup on her to try and make her appear older. Val Kilmer was good in it though.

    Thanks guys.

I don't mind long movies as long as they feel like they're going somewhere. I liked the long versions of LoTR for example. They had their drawn out moments too though.

Alexander could have had a half hour cut out and still be unwatchable. Jolie was really unforgivable casting for that role. I didn't buy Farrell as Alexander (that blonde wig!) but I did like Val for as long as he was in it.

I didn't really think David Wenham was suited for his role in 300 either. I'll check out KoH today if I can get out. Been sick lately.

I thought Collin did a terrific job acting, but the movie was terrible. The movie's terribleness over shadowed Collins good acting.
