How many big fights have even taken place at Barclays? On a scale of 1-10 for drama/excitement, if a fight like Gomez/Pintor is a 10 and an Ishe Smith fight is a 1, I'd rate this maybe a 6 On a scale of 1-10 for aesthetic quality (replay value), if a fight like Pryor/Arguello is a 10 and Ruiz/Rahman is a 1, I'd rate this a 4 or 5 It was ok, even good by the standards of a Porter fight but I was having a hard time understanding what the hell the TV announcers were so excited about or what any of you guys are excited about, for that matter. Bradley/Provo this wasn't
Welterweight division is on fire though. Thurman, Porter, Garcia, Spence, Brook, Bradley. Good stuff. We could end up with a Fabulous Four type four way rivalry outta this shit.
this fight showed that it is Porter's opponents (e.g. Brook), not Porter himself, who have caused some of his fights to be tedious. actually, aside from the brook fight, which of porter's fights have been so bad? the broner and paulie fights were one sided but not tedious. the alexander fight? alexander has been boring his whole career - don't blame that on porter.
Cdogg, This fight was on CBS, not regular Showtime. Obviously Renalo was trying to make it seem like it was a classic fight to hype up the casual fans. It was a good scrap though. I enjoyed it. Just because this wasn't Saad vs Yauqi Lopez doesn't mean it was a dud.
Porter is awful... His offense, if you can call that, is to get his opponent to the ropes and then press his body up against him and throw wild arm punches that land on shoulders and arms and gloves...
I know... I'm not even saying it was a dud, but I didn't think it was all that good of a fight either... It doesn't have to be Ruiz/Rahman to be an okay but not that terrific fight
he is highly aggressive and unorthodox in his pursuit. but he is not awful. :: guy is at the top of the division, right there with some of the best. not saying he is the best. but he is top 10 no doubt. he is not awful.
I thought it was a good solid action fight. Not great by any means, but certainly a tough good competitive fight with action.
i agree his technique is sometimes sloppy. but for me, his sheer aggression and guts more than makes up for it. he has good timing too. and although he throws some wide shots, he can shorten them effectively. i thought his jab tonight was very effective. his body punching was good too. plus, he actually had some success countering thurman. i think thurman won with clean punching. but porter was right there with him.
Hurd was the most impressive fighter on the card. I like thurman somewhat, but if this kid keeps working he can be a factor
you think? he was twice the size of his opponent. his defense was pretty terrible. and he was slow as hell. i was not impressed at all. only real positive was the paul williamsesque output.
Hurd is slippery and I like his style. He can fight. Like him to whip the charlos and would rather see him vs williams and andrade
if canelo's not a middleweight why doesn't he fight all theae guys: williams, andrade, charlos, etc.? is it a gbp/haymon thing?
Welterweight is probably the most interesting division in boxing right now. Tons of good interesting fights to make, and there is a few fighters who might turn out to be great (well to be honest I think that only SPence has the potential for it, but some seems to be really high on Brooks)
remember when tyson broke his back against etienne? he told jim gray it was spinal. the scenario you are referring to is vaginal
Good Fight Last Night... Bouts Like This, Broadcast Live on Network Television, Is How a Mainstream Fanbase is Constructed... REED:hammert:
Christ Almighty, you can't be serious. Prime Shane was 7 levels about Porter. Your Shane hate is appauling.
Salido-Vargas was overrated as Hell IMO. I was cracking up when Kellerman's cheerleading ass was comparing it to Corrales-Castillo. It wasn't a great fight by any stretch. I enjoyed Thurman-Porter more.
to me, vargas salido was much better. it wasnt close to corrales castillo I, but was way better than thurman porter
