Sorry I don't agree bra. We'll have to agree to disagree. I find him overrated as fuck. I don't like his films. Mo Better Blues was just awful IMO. I just don't like his style of directing....and have already provided my reasons. Jungle Fever was entertaining but it aired all of our dirty laundry in public and as such I hated it.

Pam Grier was so damn fine. Much better than the deaf Def rapper Foxy Brown.

Why there isn't a black female action star like Pam Grier in our diverse and inclusive Hollywood?

Jesus dude can you take it down a peg? Does every post you do have to be politicized? We get it, the world isn’t the way it should be but you don’t have to rage out about it every second of the day or better still in every post. Can you try to quit being so negative all the time?

"Dr. BLACK and Mr. Hyde"?? They really dove into a well of creativity for that one.

And I didn't even know there was a "Blackenstein." :Jest:

Well it was probably easy for Spike to find good actors by looking into an untapped talent pool of typical nonwhite actors that was mostly being either stereotyped or flat out neglected by Hollywood.

And I’m not blaming Hollywood here, once movies mostly moved out of the art category and became about business it only made sense to market movies to the largest audience which is obviously white America. Since people usually prefer to see movies with stars they identify with it makes sense that Hollywood skews white.

In Spike’s case he was making films to and for the color he identified with which is black. I believe he was more into the art side of film so he didn’t really care so much about profit that he would allow it to infect his vision. That is what allowed him to choose the best acting talent regardless of race, creed or color.

    Dead Presidents was very good

New Jersey Drive was pretty good

I’m not sure if Baby Boy is good necessarily, but it’s (often unintentionally) funny as hell.

This post is gold you had me lmao. The way you described Spike Lee that's exactly how Juan Manuel Marquez acts ever since he knocked out Pacman. God Complex and critical of any Mexican fighters. Nobody is good enough.

Yup Floyd is the perfect example. Took some hair from his ass and put it on his head and beard. He looks like a damn Chia-pet. Floyd never had a thick beard. His beard was mangy. All of a sudden he's sporting a beard like Barry White.

I just read this thread for the first time and the banter between Reed, Sly, and X was epic... had me lmao. Regarding Lee he's had some remarkable films. Malcolm X is without a doubt one of my all time favorite films in the 'Black films' category. But I must say that for me some of his work can be a bit cringe-worthy. It seems like a lot of his films revolve around the theme of racism. No offense to the brothas but he comes across as the Al Sharpton of black filmmakers. I understand the importance of addressing racial issues but his films can sometimes feel a bit predictable. Not a fan of his work with a very few exceptions. And Perry....never got the humor but then again I'm not a black fattie from the south. Makes sense now thanks to Reed breaking it down for me lol.

WTF? People have said everything from Love and Basketball, Love Jones, Fresh, The Wood and even House Party but The Last Dragon is the movie you say is considered too popular to be on the underrated list?

I actually thought this was one of the first actual underrated films mentioned, as it seems to be a mostly forgotten and least viewed films out there.

I didn’t realize until a recent rewatch what a complete asshole Omar’s character was in Love & Basketball.

It’s not a movie, but The New Edition miniseries on BET was good. Much better than some of these Hollywood biopics about musicians (like Notorious and All Eyes on Me).
