This is what I was talking about in the Hagler-McClellan MM thread, about it being a pretty one sided matchup.

Early 80s Marvin was a fuckin machine, and a beautiful technician.

And he never, ever got tired. One of the best conditioned athletes (nevermind boxers) of all time.

Sly seems to think Hagler was a crude brawler who got by on his chin and determination.

Hagler x Mugabi in '86 was brutal.
Mugabi was a yuuuuge hitter yet Hagler ate everything and delivered a worse beatdown in return....

Nah. Hagler was a beautiful fighter, fluid and very rhythmic with endless stamina. I'm just saying that McClellan is a huge middleweight with power at least equal to Hearns and a chin better than anyone Hagler had previously faced. Therefore not a routine defends for Hagler

Hagler, for me, was the best finisher in history. What helped his finishing ability was his chin. When you believe in your chin as much as Hagler did you have no fear of the incoming (by way of desperation punch) when your opponent is hurt.

He's definitely up there, and has a legit case for that claim.

But one could also argue Louis, Leonard, or Tyson being the best finisher ever.

I think those guys are the top 4.

Sly would laugh that off, but Mosley was a damn good finisher. Where he ranks all time among finishers, I dunno, there's been some good ones.

Robinson, Marciano, Pryor, and Bob Foster were all time great finishers. Gomez and Trinidad both have to be mentioned.

Shane was decent, but he's not among the very best. Hagler was a guy that once he hurt you...you were done. End of story. The Hearns KO was the quintessential example of this: Hagler SPRINTED across the ring to finish him. That's feral. Ali was among the best finishers of all time. People forget this because he wasn't a huge puncher...but as soon as Ali had a man hurt, it was game over. Think of the Ron Lyle, Jimmy Ellis, George Foreman and Zora Foley fights. Ali didn't waste those opportunities.

You are correct about Ali. I should have listed him.

We could have separate "Best Finisher" thread to discuss, but Mosley was a helluva lot more than a "decent" finisher. If I were to make a top 15ish all time finishers list, Shane would be on there.

In fact, Mosley's finishing ability was probably his second best attribute behind his handspeed.
