Camacho at 21-23 years ago was indeed a special fighter. His star burnt out quickly, but he was a talent that you very rarely see. Since his prime, there has YET to be a lightweight as fast he was.
For me elite doesn't have to be an all time great, but more than being just slightly better or more successful than their contemporaries.
Elite, to me is self explanatory. People like to just over complicate things. Elite Tennis Players: Federer Sampras Nadal Djokovic Becker Lendl Borg Edberg Agassi Not elite, although they`ve won majors and many other titles....Murray, Ivanisevic, Rafter I don`t need to get into a big explanation as to why I consider the first group elite.....they just are, and we should all understand why.
Trinidad and De La Hoya are both elite fighters.....Quartey and Vargas are not....for example. IMO though...
Make your case about what Elite is and place fighters in it. Why does everything have to come to a halt?
Fuck off... I made the point I wanted to make ... Defining key terminology is an important first step in any discussion... You don't like my post, ignore it and write whatever you want ... I don't give a shit ...
I actually wasn't attacking you. I was encouraging you to define it so we can keep the discussion going. Others have tried to define it. If you did as well, maybe we can all come to consensus and then properly debate who belongs there.
Some definitions have been offered up and those have been questioned... In other words, it's an ongoing process
Enough with arguments about what elite means in boxing. If anyone doesn't know yet, then must stop reading this thread and go back to watch old videos of the past boxing best of the best. Then come back here and humbly admit that Hector El Macho Camacho was indeed an elite boxer.
