REED pops in Rjj vs Richard Frazier and exclaims to himself: " that just never gets old; such brilliance."

Not surprising a rjj groupie would take offense at the idea that competive fights count for more.

Hagler/Duran is a pretty one sided fight but it's fun to watch because Duran's skill and guile allows him to perform respectably and go the distance with a guy that most figured would destroy him ... even in defeat he's hard to hit clean, very telling that you enjoy that fight... very very telling

I would not call that fight one- sided though.

10-5, 11-4 easily ... everytime Marvin quit fucking around and stepped on the gas he was pushing Duran around like a rag doll

As he should have been doing...Duran was a blown up lightweight.

I'm the same as Clogg for the most part, I love signature performances, displays of amazing artistry by great guys on top of their game, particularly which lean towards skill and crafmanship more than than athleticism

As the exception which kinda proves the rule my fave fight to watch is probably toney-mccallum because it's like BOTH guys were operating on that level at once.

So really your favorite is when both fighters manage to dispay a high level of skill?

Not generally no. The phrase 'exception which proves the rule' should have been very telling, even if the first paragraph hadn't been completely clear to you

Ok to be clearer - it's an example of an exhibition of old school boxing skill, particularly the seamless blend of attack with defensive skill. Those are the performances I like to rewatch most and theyre more frequently one sided virtuoso beat downs.... that fight is a rare exception

All else equal, would you prefer a one or two-sided exhibition? And could their rarity be what motivates our rewatching?

I guess all things being equal Id probably prefer the latter but they're rare, particularly among Modern, colour era fights. And I prefer watching in colour. So, on average, im more likely to rewatch a beat down like duran-cuevas, Duran-moore, Sanchez-Gomez, toney-Barkley, chavez-Rosario etc

I actually think the early rounds of mayweather-Augustus fit the bill, weirdly. Thats a fucking awesome fight

How about you? All else equal, do you prefer one or two sided craft?

I think when two guys are comparably skilled they can cancel each other out a bit; when a great guy establishes a bit of dominance they can pull off a wee bit more and you're more likely to see the wider repertoire of 'moves'

Nice thing about over-matched opponents is there is a significantly larger pool of fighters able to bedazzle when matched against them. Who can forget Broner's early displays of brilliance before stepping up? Or the early performances of Juan Ma that so impressed Jim Lampley?

The latter but it seldom happens and sometimes the styles aren't complimentary ...

I'm with you. Definitely prefer joint displays of craft and skill. I actually think they are less rare than you may think.

I've watched a whole lot of fights and they are definitely the exception especially when great fighters are involved

5 knockdowns to Vargas, he got killed really

It was dramatic live because Vargas tried hard to come back but I don't see a whole lot to savor on a replay already knowing the outcome

Used to like rewatching old fights, but now, I must admit I find it rather pointless.

I must've missed the aesthetically pleasing Broner performances...

Can't see what it has to do with enjoying a legend like Archie Moore put on a clinic, for example
