:: I know that. We don't have NBC here....I wonder will SKY or Boxnation be carrying it. For once, those of us on this side of the pond pay extra.
So haymon pulled a creep manuver. He prevented matthysse vs provodnikov from fighting on March 28th at the most logical venue, stubhub center by holding the date for his shitty fights featuring jhonny gonzalez vs Gary russell jr. Then when the real fight gets moved to April in verona, NY haymon decides to bump his shitty card to San antonio. That really is some devious bitch made shit
fuck over delahoya. and matthysse who left him? cause them to move a much better fight card off the same date in march?
Damn it, Haymon is a business genius. And if you think about it, he's the best thing that happened to the sport. No more HBO/Showtime monopoly, fighters get paid well but not insane amounts of money unless you're FM or MP, and the upcoming fighters get more exposure on national tv.
Hauser has a fucking hard-on for Haymon that's become pretty annoying. Going as extreme as to quote Bible verses? Getting a fucking life, THOMAS.
He used to have one for HBO so they hired him to shut him up. The article he wrote about Manny was clearly an excuse piece for the HBO fighter. The stuff he said about Mayweather and Haymon were true. That Bible verse was too much
The way the PBC sees itself — as the irrational player willing to bleed money to prove its theory and then cash in on it — is precisely the way that boxing’s incumbent players perceive it, save perhaps for the confidence that the brand bomb will yield a return on investment. “We feel like other television networks getting into boxing and broadening awareness of the sport is all going to rebound to HBO’s benefit and is a good thing,” said Ken Hershman, president of HBO Sports, which for the last two decades has attracted the largest ratings for boxing. “The jury is still out on whether financially this is going to be a sustainable business model. That’s up to them and the networks they’re working with. “I would imagine there will be some level of disruption if the money coming into the system is as significant as it appears to be. I don’t think you can pretend it won’t cause disruption in the marketplace [for TV rights to fights]. How that translates to what we’re doing, time will tell. But if you don’t answer to anybody, don’t have to deliver ratings, and have a war chest to keep doing things, there’s no question it can be disruptive to typical operation of the system.” This is fascinating stuff, but I am betting against PBC. Lawsuits they should lose, over paying for Berto and Guerrero type guys, incestuous relationship with NBC, ignoring of the sanctioning bodies... I think Haymon has proven himself in the past, but there are just too many hurdles and pitfalls in the way of this strategy working out. For the fans it will be a windfall, though. I agree with Hershman--this is a disruption.
Why is it annoying? Haymon is trying to take over boxing in America and no one else is really holding him accountable.
Which Pacquiao article? I know he's written a few about him. I like Hauser but that Bible quote just came out of nowhere and yes, it was too much.
Im not all inform on what Haymon means/is doing with boxing...but if fighters get paid less I'm all for it. Just because Floyd n Pac make millions a fight doesn't mean motherfucking Bradley, Thurman, Garcia deserve 4-5 million a fight.... I read somewhere(probably here) that Bradley made 3-4 million after against an opponent after the Pacquiao gift...that crazy...unless it was against Marquez...but even then it's still crazy. Garcia-Thurman-Brooks-Bradley-Rios-Prod-Guerrero-Porter all these guys deserve 2-3 million if..>IF they fight each other or KHAN(who is a bigger name that all of them)....but for glorified sparring session against guys top 59 in the division? FUCK THAT....
There's scrubs sitting on the end of NBA benches that make 4-5 million a year, yet you mean to tell me it's outrageous that men who LITERALLY risk their lives everytime they go into the ring don't deserve the same?
I'm all for fighters getting paid but I'd rather have a card full of good fights than a card with shitty undercard and overpaid headliners. So, a solid pay across the board is better than a huge purse for the headliners only. I'm not saying Haymon will do this but anyway his fighters are getting paid well.
I think Haymon overpaid, but so fucking what?!? Good for the fighters. Fighters should make as much as they can in pretty much any legitimate way they can. I was all for those stupid back ads. I'm all for fighters getting every penny from promoters. I know not all fans think this way, but they should.
I agree in principle but the comparison is not valid monetarily. There are hundreds of thousands of soldiers who are LITERALLY putting more at risk than anybody getting in a boxing ring. Should they not deserve the same?
Without getting into our fucked up priorities as humans, no one pays to watch soldiers. We pay to watch boxing, and if we're going to pay, I'd rather the money go to the fighters.
Of course, but it comes down to how much money is in the pot. There is no question boxers have been and are being ripped off. If everybody had a choice of giving their money to the fighter or the promotion it wouldn't even be a discussion. It was just an apples and oranges comparison about risk. The military, boxing and the NBA can't be compared in either respect.
