IBF and WBO heavy champ Wladimir Klitschko have according to German paper Bild Zeitung received an offer for five million EUR from Sauerland Event to face Alexander Povetkin, the IBF mandatory challenger - and turned it down. Wladimir insist on fighting Tony Thompson in July next but the matter is complicated. Sauerland has protested the matter to the IBF and a decision is expected soon.

It makes no sense of making Wlad-Povetkin yet. Povetkin has still plenty of time to learn and if he keeps winning (which I think he will), they both will make much bigger cash in the future. Meanwhile Wlad can keep on cleaning up the division

I thought Wlad vs Thompson was already set? I'm sure Wlad will fight Povetkin in due time.

If Klitschko beats Thompson, he'll still have to face Povetkin as his mandatory and that would probably happen later this year.

I don't really get the insistence of Sauerland of pushing this fight and not simply waiting until Klitschko fights Thompson, unless they think there's some chance he'll relinquish the title or that Povetkin can fight for an interim title... or they're worried Klitschko will lose and the payday will be gone.

Other than that, there doesn't seem to be a great incentive to push hard enough that Klitschko-Povetkin is actually made before Klitschko-Thompson.

I hope Wladimir actually does duck Povetkin now because he sure as fuck isn't ducking him by fighting the wbo mandatory first as he should.
    .
Stupid thread title and if the IBF does anything but tell Sauerland to go fuck himself then the IBF should go fuck itself. Of course, it's not like the IBF is above such nonsense.

Povetkin - Wlad never made sense to me anyway, I mean, what's the reward for us American fans? A European verses a European, and there can only be one outcome, so fuck that.

Cupey should change the title of this thread. In no way is Wlad ducking anyone. Who has Wlad ever ducked? It's just plain disrespectful.

Povetkin is still to green IMO. He should stick around and wait for Wlad to retire. He'll get starched quickly.

He may, but Povetkin seems to do everything Brewster can do better (except punch as hard) and I could see him being able to put the pressure on Wlad and actually land punches (which is the main problem with fighting Wlad) that he could beat Wlad the same way Brewster (and purritty) did.

I think Wlad is superb, but he is not without flaws, particularly durability. And a guy who can land on him is always going to have a chance.

same thing they said about calvin brock, and IMO they didn't let him mature and took a beating vs. Wlad as a result. Povetkin is the future of the division, not the present.

So what you're saying is that if Wlad beats the shit out of Povetkin and then gasses out, he can win the same as Brewster?

    Cause that's what happened.
