Being BRUTALLY Honest, a "White" Sitcom DOESN'T Need to Be Diverse at All, to Be SUCCESSFUL...The POPULATION of Whites is Such That They'll Do FINE Sans Minority Viewership...

"Cheers" DIDN'T Need Blacks, Latinos, Asians, etc., to Flourish and Neither Did "Friends", Even Though they CAPITULATED and Added a Sista Towards the End...

On the Flipside, a Show Like "Blackish" HAS to Include White Characters to Have a PRAYER of Success...Luckily, the Writers are SMART and FUNNY In the Way they Include Them...

@ The Very Least, Cosby Show and Fresh Prince had White EXTRAS in Every Episode, Bruh...

Hell, the Private School Will and Carlton Attended was MOSTLY White, as were Hillary's Friends...No, Whites weren't PROMINENT, but they Weren't Altogether EXCLUDED Either...

Lol @ saying the Cosby Show & Fresh Prince had no white involvement.

Both those shows perfectly towed the line of not being tooooooo black to turn off white America, and ad REED stated, they had plenty of white extras.

Then you have Martin... a hilarious and successful sitcom that didn't give a fuck about making jokes to appeal to white America. Basically, OUR Seinfeld.

Don't bother trying to explain it to him. As Sam Jackson recently said, black Brits can't FULLY understand the African American culture.

CBS is wildly popular, but it is really the pits.

......and yeah, Kat Dennings would get it.............if I was not married already, rich, handsome, worked on the same set as her.......and she like, liked me......not just as a friend or something, but you know...........as something more.

They were token extras. For all intents and purposes it was an all black show. I don't think the odd white person that showed up for one second here and there made any impact to the white audience.

    Bob's Burgers is fucking awful.

The Office, while sometimes funny, is extremely overrated.

Really liked the show but probably one of the biggest hot/cold comedies I can think of.

Same. I am a Cheers fan but they took the least interesting character to build a show around.

Theo's homeboy that was dying of cancer was white. And Rudi's lead blocker on her football team, fat boy Peter was white.

To me I don't think most people would view the Cosby Show or The Fresh Prince as black shows despite all the main characters being black.

Not like the black shows from the 70s. Good Times, What's Happenin?, The Jefferson's, Sanford and Son. Though they all appealed to white audiences as well.

My favorite show of all time...JUST ahead of Cheers.

Instead of using a team of writers that consistently wrote together, they had a team of writers that switched off on writing episodes. That would explain the hot/cold comedy.

My favorite thing about the show was the way they were able to expand the characters, though they did have to add someone every couple of seasons. And for a sitcom, it had the continuing storylines of a drama.

I love both Seinfeld and Married With Children but the style of comedy is completely different. Seinfeld is observational comedy with a heavy dose or irony. Though it was filmed in L.A, it was very heavy on NYC themes, where it was supposed to take place. MWC is low brow, gallows humor. A parade of insults, cheap sex jokes and far fetched scenarios. Of course more people will actually "get" the latter.

It's like comparing Public Enemy with the 2 Live Crew.

Pretty much. I watched plenty of "Married With Children", especially the earlier seasons, but it was pretty lowbrow. Probably one of the best possible versions of THAT type of comedy, outside of "The Honeymooners", mostly because the cast was better then the material, and they were able to elevate it a little higher then is normally possible in that type of comedy.

I still catch episodes of "Seinfeld" every once in awhile. I don't think I could sit through an entire episode of "Married With Children" today.

I think the thing that makes the Office lack for me is the secondary characters are so much funnier than the main characters. I can't stand the messy haired guy who's gimmick is to look into the camera when someone else says something outlandish. He's the worst part of the show by far. The fat bald white guy, the old black guy, and Creed Bratton are the best parts of the show.

I'm not sure if you watched a couple of episodes or a couple of seasons but the fact that you didn't know Jim's name in the show leads me to believe it's a couple of shows.

It is based on the concept of the UK office which is a strange concept. That a film crew is making a documentary of the place and films everything, In the UK version it was only 12 episodes so the concept made more sense, as opposed to well over 200 episodes and nearly ten years in the US version.

Jim was the most popular character because he was the audience's voice of reason. In the midst of all the chaos (95% caused by Steve Carrell's character, Michael) he usually had the best ideas, used the best logic, had the most sound reasoning and warned the other characters about the consequences of Michael's terrible ideas. Much of his advice went ignored, to which he would look into the camera as if to say "Remember when I told them this would happen."

If you're familiar with the show, it's a big part of it but if you aren't I'm sure it just likes corny, shit acting. I agree about the background characters being strong and that was developed over many seasons and that was maybe the best part of the show.
