http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/15336398.stm Several foreign-owned Premier League clubs want to scrap relegation, according to League Managers Association chief Richard Bevan. If more clubs are sold to foreigner investors, they may have enough votes to force through the change. But Bevan hopes that a government-led inquiry can help prevent the proposal. "We're very keen that the report is successful in helping the Football Association introduce a licensing programme for clubs," he said. "Because there are a number of overseas-owned clubs already talking about bringing about the avoidance of promotion and relegation in the Premier League. "If we have four or five more new owners, that could happen." More to follow. Wait for an outraged response from Dave Whelan, who should be glad they want shut of relegation :: As it happens I am against this particular change.
Scrap relegation and promotion? What the flipping fuck fuck. A ridiculous idea. There will be no ambition left in the game whatsoever.
In fairness, ambition of just not getting relegated is a joke idea anyways. Remember Mick McCarthy getting stick for saying "I'd settle for 15th right now", back before the start of last season??
They should be aiming higher. "It is intended that the new capital, over a period of time, will be used to help re-establish Wolves as a Premiership club. Although this is a significant amount of money there will not be an ’open cheque book’ approach to signing players; instead the club will build on the current strategy of steadily and progressively developing a team of young, hungry and talented players." — Club Statement This was after their protracted takeover in 2007.
Precisely. Yet their ambition is to not get relegated. When everything you do is geared toward not getting relegated, you can never ever move towards winning the title. You watch Stoke now....they will back off and be back to the "not getting relegated" bit in a while. If you don't have to worry about getting relegated, you can play your kids, develop your youth and not worry about having them pinched for fuck all once you get relegated. The bottom line is that there is too much money to be made out of the play-off final and too much political mileage to be had out of whining about yanks for anyone to seriously examine the question. Right now, the process of relegation-promotion is great for excitement but it realistically does fuck all for ambition or development.
Yes, but QPR could yet be punished for ambition. Wolves won't be. They might both get relegated, just saying.....and if they did, who would it hurt more? Wolves, who spent fuck all and did fuck all and tried fuck all....or QPR, who turned down $$$ for Taraabt in the hope they might stay up??
Relegation would indeed hurt us the most, as we have been financially well backed and have proven to be resolute in the transfer market. I personally believe, that if an offer came in for Taarabt in the next transfer window, then we should sell him. I love the guy but I believe his intentions lie elsewhere. Just my opinion. Many may agree, many may disagree. Barton came out saying that he is yet to see the true ability of Taarabt and wants him to stop being a whining git and grow up. I hope that Taarabt scores soon and that we do indeed see his absolute best. He has been playing well, altho against Blackburn he was not quite up to it, but there is still much more in Taarabt that we have yet not seen.
I really can't wait for chelshit to come to the mighty Loft. It's going to be a cracking atmosphere and our boys will be up for it big time. P.S, Liverpool should have beaten United. Decent game from the highlights I saw. Gerrard doing what he does best and scoring when it matters in big games. I hope he can continue to be injury free, because he'll get goals and assists and really benefit that midfield as always.
I hope you guys beat Chelsea. Would do us all a major favour. And do Spurs too. :bears: My idea on relegation, promotion: promote for TWO years and relegate likewise. That way you have a two year plan and not some mad fucking dash. In the meantime, the relegated club also have two years to stabilize and come again.
the current system is one year? That would seem to make things extra difficult for clubs on the precipice I didn't know that, still trying to understand the whole thing
What a play by Silva that set up Aguero's goal for City to win against Villareal. That said, Man City are looking rather shaky in Europe, thus far. Of course they could get better anytime seeing as how great a squad they have. But thus far, they're not performing at the level that many thought they would in the Champions League. Didn't see the United performance but heard they won with Rooney scoring two goals.
Two penalties and becomes the leading English goal scorer in champions league history. 26 - Wayne Rooney 24 - Paul Scholes 20 - Frank Lampard 19 - Steven Gerrard
Liverpool were beaten in a Friendly designed to give the team an extra run-out, especially the injured or come-backing players, and those who have been left out recently. Jesus, 2 years ago we couldn't have afforded a game like this.
:: "City were spending big money even then"- Ferguson/Rooney Anelka. One of their players would die a Summer later. Also, they signed an FA Cup Winner, currently playing his football in the Southern Hemisphere. Can you name them?
Marc Vivien Foe was the player who died, in the confederations cup semi final. I believe he was also the last player to score at Maine Road. I remember reading a piece about how he was going to speak to Kevin Keegan after the match against Colombia to discuss extending his stay at Man City, of course he never got to make that call. Really eerie.

:bears: Done. I've done a few of them in my time. I do wonder what these doccies will reveal. Could be nasty for certain people. Most people know by now the basics....McKenzie offered the paper up as a platform to buy a 2-3 day smear window and throw people off the trail- that the police, basically, got it badly wrong. Of course, the public were happy to go along with the usual "these were at Heysel" routine, that and the old "If its in the papers it must be true" BS.
Yes yes, as per our "Common Enemy Supplementary Contract" {C.E.S.C} we will all be rooting for big, big QPR win.
Flying to London tomorrow. I'll be in England for 10 days and one day in Wales. I hopefully willl see: Fulham v Everton this Sunday. Everton-Chelsea next Wednesday. And Everton-Man U the following Sunday. I say hopefully because I don't have tickets to any of these. I didn't even bother trying to order from overseas again. But I'm pretty sure I'll get in one way or another even if I have to sit with the opposing fans like last year.
You'll get a ticket for the Fulham match. Are you looking forward to drinking with the nutters from Hounslow? :giggle:
I hear Craven Cottage is the only Premier League ground that has a neutral section. You can wear home or away shirts in that section. That might be where I end up. I'm also sure I'll get into the carling Cup tie at Goodison. There's no way that will sell out. I'm always looking fwd to drinking. I'm really looking fwd to checking out the North Coast of Wales. Unfortunately I'll be there for less than 24 hrs. I'm going to Caernarfon. Looks like a pretty nice town. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Vc2IGf2b5fU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
