Man - Ah like both o' they choices. Kenny Rogers wiz a bit left field and unexpected but ma folks' always used tae play those huge country artists as Ah wiz growing up (amongst the ABBA!). As we as 'Lucille', Ah loved 'Cooward o' the Coonty' and 'The Gambler'
I see he had two UK #1's. "Lucille" & "Coward Of The County." "The Gambler" didn't chart in the UK but it's his most popular song over here. My favorite song from him was "Through The Years."
I almost picked this as one of my earliest song memories: Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town - Wikipedia (but technically, it's Kenny Rogers & The First Edition) Jolly-sounding song, depressing storyline.
Day Foorteen, a song Ye'd like be played at yer wedding... Well, a song Ah wouldae like tae have been played, 'Mrs. Robinson' , wiz refused so I'll have tae pick the song we danced tae: 'Moon River' as sung ba Nat King Cole.

Day Fifteen ‘A song Ye like that’s a cover from another artist’. Love Johnny Cash covering ‘Hurt’ ba Nine Inch Nails...
Day 16, a classic favourite... having tae think aboot this one - Ah feel like 'Brick', the man wi' no mind from 'Anchorman'. Struggling tae get past Panchy's choice 'Bohemian Rhapsody' (a good 'un). Ah'm gonnae go left field and pick oot ma favourite classical music piece, 'Air' ba Bach:

I never wish to get married. Never have. But if someway, somehow I ever get dragged into it at gunpoint... Day 14: "We've Only Just Begun" -The Carpenters
The Left Banke's version was melancholic and fun. The Four Tops' version was soulful and serious. But only after hearing Rickie Lee Jones' version of the song did I notice the brilliance of it. Day 15: "Walk Away Renee" -Rickie Lee Jones
Song Ah’d sing (and have sung) as a duet in Karaoke... Ah sing the female parts (just kilting!). Irish: ‘She is a FILTEE WHORE!’
A song from when Ah wiz born?! This must be some commie exercise in extracting vital information... Soounds like Ah need tae send oot an S.O.S., ABBA style 1975:
Timely post as Abba has just been voted by BBC viewers as most popular Eurovision winner, (with Waterloo). Nice to see Bill Bryson on the piano as well.
jejeje @ Bill Bryson joke. Ah love that laddie, his book 'A Small History of Nearly Everything' is one Ah've read 5 times (still cannae retain the info but at least it feels new each time Ah read it). Last one Ah read wiz 'A Walk in the Woods' which wiz alsae excellent. Aye, ABBA... Ye cannae knock 'em, really. People turn they nose up but if it's a British wedding and people have had a few, play ABBA and the dance floor will be packed, like.
Day 19 - A song that makes you think about life. Ah racked ma brains and, unfortunately, Ah cannae say Ah'm a philosophical sort so nothing 'real' wiz springing tae mind... Hooever, then Ah thought way back tae when Ah wiz a teenager listening tae The Smiths, 'I Know It's Over' and that DID used tae make me think aboot life. Mainly, why Ah wiznae getting any fanny, like. Many years later, Ah've worked it oot... it's because Ah wiz listening tae The Smiths!
Like Kate Bush & Hall & Oates, Carly Simon started her career with a non traditional single. Her debut was a complex, artsy song with negative lyrics about life. And like Kate Bush, her record company was reluctant to release such an unconventional pop song especially as a lead single. (Both songs went on to be hits in the singer's home country and Bush's single went to #1.) The song is about people jumping through hoops to do what is expected of them in life. Rather than doing what makes them happy. And overlooking negative consequences to play along as if everything is fine. The song was more edgy in 1971 as divorce rates in the US were much lower than now. Day 19: "That's The Way I've Always Heard It Should Be" -Carly Simon
That is a grand song, Ah just watched the vid on the telly less than a week ago and thought Kiki Dee looked lovely. She wiz the first white lassie tae be signed fer Motown, which is testament tae her fantastic voice... no' bad fer Yorkshire lass. Chi-lites are great as well... have Ye SEEn her?
Yer Bill Bryson reply has gone missing! Ah dae apologise fer no' getting back tae Ye yesterday - Ah sometimes leave a post hanging simply so it diznae look like Ah'm talking tae masen! He diz have a wonderful turn o' phrase and his skill as a former editor fer many top newspapers shows he is a vocabulary ninja and no' tae be messed wi' at scrabble!
Mind Ye, this thread has nearly one thoosand two hundred views, so fer all of Ye folks anxiously awaiting the next song tae record tae yer mix tape... A song that means many things tae Ye. Unoriginal, but easy - ‘In My Life’ by the one and only, BRITISH Beatles:
Right, day 22, a song that moves Ye forward? Onward Christian Soldiers? (just kilting) Ah'm tempted tae put 'I Will Survive' ba Gloria Gaynor but will plump fer 'A Little Time' ba The Beautiful Sooth:
Toughest choice yet. Five songs came to mind. I went with the most emotional of the five. Day 20: "Hide And Seek" -Imogen Heap
