Man - Ah like both o' they choices.

Kenny Rogers wiz a bit left field and unexpected but ma folks' always used tae play those huge country artists as Ah wiz growing up (amongst the ABBA!). As we as 'Lucille', Ah loved 'Cooward o' the Coonty' and 'The Gambler'

I see he had two UK #1's. "Lucille" & "Coward Of The County." "The Gambler" didn't chart in the UK but it's his most popular song over here.

My favorite song from him was "Through The Years."

Waylon Jennings did it first in 1966. Jennings also covered "Lucille" later in 1977.

The Left Banke's version was melancholic and fun. The Four Tops' version was soulful and serious. But only after hearing Rickie Lee Jones' version of the song did I notice the brilliance of it.

Timely post as Abba has just been voted by BBC viewers as most popular Eurovision winner, (with Waterloo). Nice to see Bill Bryson on the piano as well.

:Jest:jejeje @ Bill Bryson joke. Ah love that laddie, his book 'A Small History of Nearly Everything' is one Ah've read 5 times (still cannae retain the info but at least it feels new each time Ah read it). Last one Ah read wiz 'A Walk in the Woods' which wiz alsae excellent.

Aye, ABBA... Ye cannae knock 'em, really. People turn they nose up but if it's a British wedding and people have had a few, play ABBA and the dance floor will be packed, like.

Day 19 - A song that makes you think about life.

Ah racked ma brains and, unfortunately, Ah cannae say Ah'm a philosophical sort so nothing 'real' wiz springing tae mind...

Hooever, then Ah thought way back tae when Ah wiz a teenager listening tae The Smiths, 'I Know It's Over' and that DID used tae make me think aboot life. Mainly, why Ah wiznae getting any fanny, like. Many years later, Ah've worked it oot... it's because Ah wiz listening tae The Smiths! :Mad1:

Like Kate Bush & Hall & Oates, Carly Simon started her career with a non traditional single. Her debut was a complex, artsy song with negative lyrics about life. And like Kate Bush, her record company was reluctant to release such an unconventional pop song especially as a lead single. (Both songs went on to be hits in the singer's home country and Bush's single went to #1.)

The song is about people jumping through hoops to do what is expected of them in life. Rather than doing what makes them happy. And overlooking negative consequences to play along as if everything is fine. The song was more edgy in 1971 as divorce rates in the US were much lower than now.

Day 19: "That's The Way I've Always Heard It Should Be" -Carly Simon

Right, day 22, a song that moves Ye forward? Onward Christian Soldiers? (just kilting)

Ah'm tempted tae put 'I Will Survive' ba Gloria Gaynor but will plump fer 'A Little Time' ba The Beautiful Sooth:

Toughest choice yet. Five songs came to mind. I went with the most emotional of the five.
