I don't think this was false modesty here.
Ali was kinda humble in a way.

To have NO problems with him is a stretch. I don't think anyone has an easy fight with Rocky. Definately a fun matchup though. Great style matchup.

Most modern fighters say that about past legends. Didn't Tyson say it about Holmes too even though he surely didn't believe it

Yeah, usually after they've just beaten them, to show "respect"
Ali really seemed genuine & considered in his opinion. He went back & forth

Oh, you've got me feeling all intellectually inferior (to you) Barristan.

Why don't you just be honest & say:
"Pascal's, you've really got under my skin with stuff you've said in previous threads..."

No you don't understand. Ask Pascals he'll explain how genuine and considered Ali was in his opinion that Rocky would beat him.

Marciano STRUGGLED w/Past Prime Versions of Archie Moore AND Jearsey Joe Walcott...EITHER Version of Ali (Pre OR Post-Exile) BEATS Marciano Convincingly....

Why is it that Other Fighters Resumes R Held AGAINST them, yet NOBODY Ever Brings Up Marciano's???...Honestly, John Ruiz has As Good, if Not BETTER Quality Wins, Truth B Told....

I don't think you even know what point (assuming you have one), you're trying to make.
Calm down, slow down, & try to concentrate

Do you think that Ali was not genuine & considered in his opinion?

Do you think that me pointing out that he was, is somehow a counter argument to TLC saying that Ali wouldve beat the shit out of him?

Do you think that me posting the footage, pointing out that Ali was humble, genuine & considered in his opinion, somehow equates to me asserting that Ali would lose to Marciano?

When you've had a think, if you feel foolish, try not to get too upset with me (or yourself). That's how you got to this point in the first place.

Now, for the record, IMO Ali is not only the greatest HWY OAT, but the
    greatest fighter OAT.
On his best night I would pick him over any other fighter in history. (Including The Rock).

Just in case you don't believe me:

Agreed. I think he could beat Lewis too but it wouldn't be easy.

No you jerkoff...I'm pointing out that Ali was clearly deferring to a boxing hero out of respect and anyone with half a brain knows that Ali certainly didn't think that Rocky would even win a round against him. I know the concept is a little too nuanced for your simple ass but there it is.

So @ no stage in this thread did you think that I was suggesting that Marciano would beat Ali? ...well I'll let that slide.

Also you don't think that Ali was genuine & considered in his opinion. Glad we got that sorted.

I'm sure the other kid's in the playground are impressed when you say stuff like "jerkoff", & "half a brain", but to us adults it just sounds like an insecure kid having a hissy fit.

I'm certainly well aquainted with boxers "deferring to a boxing hero out of respect".
However, for me, Ali, seemed genuine. That's really why I posted the clip in the first place. So the adults could discuss it.

Peope take it far too literally.

Today, Marciano would be around 200lbs and every bit as fast at that.

Ali struggled with a no-good Henry Cooper. The pre-1970 Ali did not have the same powers of resistance that the post-1970 version did.

People talk about how John Ruiz has "as good a win as" Marciano...well guess what, Ruiz also has better losses. Unless you think Kobozev is giving Rocky a beating. And unless you think Tua is doing him in 1.

Why not? Holmes arguably whipped Michael Spinks both times, and he was a 6'5" Olympic Gold Medallist, 220lbs.....unbeaten when Holmes fought him and Holmes was faded then too.....Spinks is as physically as close as we can get to Cassius Clay and Holmes was right in there, arguably winning the fights. Holmes was big, smart, could jab, had a helluva chin.......you have to give him at least a chance. If Cooper could tap that jaw then so could Larry.
