I actually banged off multiple sets of chins with the 25lb weightvest yesterday. Compared to me struggling for one or two chins when I first started out, this is great progress for me. I may get up to doing sets of 10 with 60+lbs by the end of March. Greasing the groove worked BIGTIME for me, LOK. Good looking out on that little training secret!
Grease the groove is awesome huh Buddy? This was the first weekend I did not do my 100 chin days.. I was sick as hell.. I think something I ate got me sick, all day yesterday
More likely something you drank! :: What happened, Lokster? Did you meet up with a tough watermelon? :: ::
I'm in agony. I got 10 reps with 195 in the standing powerpress, and then I did lots of reps to get my shoulders and chest burning. I also warmed up with 6 chins before doing that. Today should go by pretty slowly because my tendons are burning. ::
I'm definitely sure that if I didn't do all the chinups, I wouldn't be able to stabilize the overhead press weight. All the muscles in my back have gotten my stronger, and that has given me the confidence to really go for it when I'm fatigued.
22??? Dude, that can't be good for you...especially with your stroke history. You don't want to dehydrate and thicken your blood because that can also contribute to strokes. I have a great-uncle who just did that to himself in the summer. He now moves one side of his body normally, talks like a spastic, and is 100% impossible to understand. :: :: :: I'll have a few beers, but I wouldn't even come close to that many shots. :eeeek: :eeeek: :eeeek:
yeah man.. I will say it is the sickest I have been in at least 10 years.. that's it for me.. no more nights like that..
Well, I have greased with three sets today thus far. 8,9, and 9. Time to do my fourth. I'll detail my full workouts in the other thread.
Damn, I got 101 today, Lok. The wife demanded 100 for her birthday, and I threw 1 in for our son. It's cool to have a wife who takes an interest and cheers me on! :: :: ::
Looks like that 100-chins did something good for me. I now do sets of 10 reps. I've done three today and I'll do another few at home tonight. Grease the groove and 100 chinup shocks definitely added strength and muscle to my back. :bears: :bears: :bears:
I might do'em on Sunday as well siunce it seems less and less likely that I'll be able to go to Kingston to get my friend to film me. The temperature is dropping here quickly and that means black ice on the roads. I don't mind getting pictures of myself done, but I'm not going to take a chance of getting myself killed on the 2-hr drive down there or the 2-hour drive back. Baby comes first! :dunno:
I'm all about the 10s today. I still have this going on, but I am being careful because I don't want to tear anything. I'm not a spring chicken so I have to be scientific in my training...or at least somewhat scientific. ::
10s, definitely and no problem. I'll eventually take a few days off, and then see how many consecutive ones I can get.
Started 11s today. It's the same as 10s. No problem whatsoever. If someone had asked me 3 months ago if I would do 100 chinups, I'd probably laugh and secretly worry about tearing off both biceps. Now I'm doing 50+ chinups every two days. :dunno:
:bears: you know what got me hooked? lifting for years and being pretty strong, one day I was at a friends house and he had put a chin bar in rafters.. he said he started doing them daily. He knew that in HS I was doing 45 straight (the most in our school I think) I got on thinking I hadnt done them in a while and maybe I'd get 20 instead of 40 somthing.. I only could do 3!!!! :eeeek: That was shocking last night I found some dumbells I had put away, tonight I'm going to try and put them in a backpack and do some chins.. whats good to try Buddy? 25? 50? or shoudl I start lower?
First set, just try 10. If it is very easy, then go up in 10lb increments. I'm using 30 right now, but I think it might be soon that I'll have to go up to 40.
Sets of 11 today. In a way, they are too easy. If I can do sets of 11, then maybe I should try 12s. :dunno:
I'm still doin sets of 10 and even sometimes 5 you know, 5 is just so easy that it's easy to walk by and get a set here and there with very little effort
Very true. At the same time, I find that I want to increase the rep scheme. Today was quite different, I felt like I was flying over the top of the bar. It's the protein powder combined with meals of cottage cheese, eggs, and tuna. I'm gonna do 12 for my last set, and I do my handstand pushups right afterwards so my shoulders are warmed up.
I've been doing chins for about 3 weeks and now I can do 5 sets of 10. When I started I could do sets of maybe 6. I'm really happy with my progress. Today was my best day to date. Like you, I felt like I was flying over the bar! I'm gonna hold off on trying handstand pushups. I don't think my rotator cuffs can handle it yet.
That's fantastic, dude. You improved much faster than me, and that's great! :bears: :bears: :bears: Do you do them everyday, or do you rest in between days?
I decided to try a few extra reps and got 15, no problem. So that is 59 in total for me today...unless I did get 12 for my second set, in which case it would be an even 60. WAIT, I did one for demonstration and held it at the top for 5 seconds to show my wife, so I definitely got 60. :: I just have to polish off my handstand pushups. These small weekly changes are going to make me WAY stronger in the long run. :bears:
Thanks, Buddy. I was essentially starting from scratch so my rapid improvement was a bit expected. I'm sure I'll hit a plateau at some point, though. I do chins every other day. My biceps feel like they could use a rest the day after so I listen to them. I feel so good after every workout, much better than before when I never did any chins.
