Here's the Deal... When REED's 8 Year Old is Watching a Fight w/him & She's Unaware of Who's Who, she'll ALWAYS Differentiate the Fighters THE EASIEST Way Possible... By their Skin Color... "Who's Winning Daddy, the Black Guy or the White Guy?":dunno: ...Not 1nce has She Said, "Who's Winning Daddy, the Guy w/the White Trunks & Red Stripes or the Guy w/the Solid White Trunks?" REED's Daughter is Half Black/Half White & has NEVER Been Subjected to Racism of ANY Kind...She's LITERALLY Got Friends of ALL Ethnicities (She's Even Got a Mentally Challenged Friend) & Wouldn't Know HOW to Discriminate if She WANTED To... Of Course, Race is a Touchy Subject, but as an IDENTIFIER, REED See's NO Problem w/It Whatsoever...Again, it's THE FIRST Thing we ALL Notice about Each Other... It Only COMPLICATES the Issue to DANCE AROUND It as an IDENTIFIER...If an 8 Year Old Girl can Do it w/NO Harm Intended, Why Can't an Announcer???? REED:dunno:
Because an 8 Year Old Girl is clearly not a professional, who can differentiate all the subtleties involved in identifying fighters to the watching public. Commentators, on the other hand, are trained professionals.....
True, but it INSULTS the Viewers Intelligence when U Note EVERY OTHER Difference EXCEPT the Most OBVIOUS 1... It's as if Everybody BUT the Announcer Recognizes the Racial Difference...For the Sake of BREVITY, it Makes MORE Sense to State the OBVIOUS, N REED's Opinion... REED
Nice post and all, very informative and all that, but irrelevant to the issue of fight ANNOUNCERS distinguising fighters by race unless absolutely necessary. We can say whatever we want in our own homes...but in a professional environment we must be prudent.
We "MUST" ???:dunno: ... WHY??... As Others have Stated, the WORST Way to Deal w/Race is by IGNORING it... What's the DOWNSIDE to Calling a White Guy "White" or a Black Guy "Black"???... REED:dunno:
but damn, sly, look at the example posted in the thread's initial post. You'd still rather an announcer describe the fighters by their shoelace colors? I agree for the most part that race shouldn't be the first and foremost way to describe someone. But at the same time, for most people it's the easiest way, and as REED said, so long as there's no mean intentions behind it, who cares?
What about if one is in Green trunks and one in Red and the most obvious difference is STILL the skin colour? If my bro comes in the room he'd still just go 'whos winning the white guy or the black guy', as would anyone else (apart from uptight PC fucks with rods up their asses). Its human nature to look at the person before their shorts. Should they just call them the black fighter and the white fighter?
When there's an OBVIOUS Difference in the 2 Fighters, REED Thinks we Should Roll w/It... People @ Home R Doing it, the Fans N Attendance R Doing it & Even the Announcer HIMSELF is Doing it N his MIND...He's just RELUCTANT to Do it Verbally 4 Some Reason... If Someone Could Point Out a DOWNSIDE to it, REED Might Think Differently...But as Long as an Announcer is Merely IDENTIFYING a Fighter by his Race, w/NO Trace of Bias, REED Doesn't See a Problem w/It... REED
What if the initial scenario is the same (both wearing same colored trunks, shoes etc.) but both guys are black. However one dude is super dark ala Manute Bol, and the other is much lighter? :dunno: ::
This Actually Occured During the Allan Green-Edison Miranda Fight...Their Trunks were Similarly Colored... & Even though Miranda's Columbian, He Could PASS for African American & he's DARKER than Allan Green... REED's Daughter Couldn't Tell them Apart, but Fortunately, Miranda had a Flag on his Trunks... "Miranda's the VERY Black One w/the Flag on his Trunks", is what REED said to his Daughter... REED::
