No because by me singling out acting as it's only reason for being seen, in reality, automatically makes it arthouse. Plus i already mentioned it's arthouse a million times. If motherfuckers cant get it still, oh well.

Saw this, I enjoyed it very much. Great acting and a good mystery with the guy trying to figure out who was hijacking his trucks. The pacing was a bit off and I agree it could have been trimmed a bit. It was still way better than most of you thought, imo. I also wouldn't call this art house Tony, it's a pretty straightforward drama film.. A decent real art house film I saw recently is called Amer.

An art film is typically a serious, independent film aimed at a niche market rather than a mass market audience.[SUP][1][/SUP] An art film is "intended to be a serious artistic work, often experimental and not designed for mass appeal";[SUP][2][/SUP] they are "made primarily for aesthetic reasons rather than commercial profit",[SUP][3][/SUP] and they contain "unconventional or highly symbolic content".[SUP][4][/SUP]

How is this movie experimental? IS it really all that unconventional or highly symbolic? It's a pretty straightforward drama like I said. Would you say it was "made primarily for aesthetic reasons rather than commercial profit"? I wouldn't. The filmmakers and studio probably had the Oscars in mind when they were making the movie. It also wasn't an independent movie afaik.

It says that they are often experimental, not always. Clearly the movie is independent. Unless you are claiming that the production team affiliated with a big production studio, which it's not. Also, clearly it's catered around a certain market and that is acting. Their goal maybe to have won awards, but that doesnt make it commercial. Many art house films win awards. Also, art house films can be straight forward dramas. And finally, most critics and experts agree it's arthouse. Just google art house and the movie and you will see.

A Most Violent Year was alright, I wasn't that big on it, kind of disappointed. There were some terrific sequences, such as the heist scenes, and Isaac is terrific, but I found it to be dragging.

On a side note, some of the reviews/advertisements about this movie said this was the most violent year in NY history. When was 1981 the most violent year? As far as I know, the most violent year (not counting 9/11) with the highest crime rates in NY history was 1990, during the height of the crack epidemic.
