Arlovski was winning it when he was pressing forward, for sure. Not saying much though since a fight lasts 3-5 rounds in MMA. Arlovski didn't make it past 2 minutes.

I've suspected for a long time that somebody with passable boxing skills could go a long way in MMA. Arlovski was KICKING THE SHIT out of Fedor there with what Freddie Roach instilled in him in what? A year? Then throws it all away with his demented Jean Claude Van Damn flying knee. Cest le vie. As I've said before, this's gonna be the next evolution in MMA - guys adding competent boxing skills to their arsenal.

Kicking the shit out of Fedor? Gimme a break.

Arlovski looked good until he got caught. He was definitely pressing the action, something you don't normally see against Fedor. But he wasn't 'kicking the shit' out of anybody.

Kicking the shit out of Fedor?? What fight were you watching?? He may have hit him with 2-3 decent shots. And Fedor walked right through them. That kick to the gut was more of a push. Andrei and idiots like you thought that he had Fedor hurt or something. Some people need to do their homework on Fedor. Punching him in the face just wakes him up.

I love how controlling stand-up for 2 minutes now constitutes "beating the shit" out of someone. And even more comical, Fedor destroys the 2nd best HW in the world in just over 3 minutes and some how that equates to a sign Fedor is slipping.

The bottom line is that Fedor had to go less than a combined 4 minutes with two of the better strikers among HW MMA fighters. And to make matters worse, despite actually choking out Sylvia, he really beat Arlovski and Sylvia at their own game, on their feet.

I don't think he showed signs of slipping last night, but I think he will have to slip a long way before anyone beats him.

By the Way, Glad U Got to B There, Dog...Fedor Actually ALLOWED Peeps to Hold his Belt???!!!....

No, It was when the officials brought the belt down to the ring. We caught them carring it and started bullshiting with them. Then I got those legs cracked open. :) Neer even got to see Fedor up close at all. Didn't try too hard this time though.

Well he landed about 10 SOLID shots, countered the life out of him with sharp counters every time Fedor tried to lead. But more than what he landed was the way he totally controlled the ring, the pattern of the fight and generally dominated the entire thing minus the clinch against the ropes that went nowhere. It looked like it was only a literally a matter of time before he walked Fedor on to something big, he was picking him off so easily. 'Kicking the shit' = that in slightly overstated terms. If he had stuck to what he was doing and left out the hong kong B-movie knees from 12 feet across the ring that was gonna be a very difficult night for Fedor. Credit to Fedor though, that was a fucking incredible shot. It took me until the third replay before I even worked out what happened.

i agree, here's my PBP of the fight.

First exchange at 1:42 -- Fedor lunges in with what looks like a 1-2 which miss completely, and gets tagged with a 1-2 from Arlovski. Fedor is sent off balance. You can clearly see Fedor off balance reeling to the side.

1:48 - Fedor once again tries a sloppy overhand left, only to get countered by an inside low kick, which takes all the power from Fedor's punch.

2:18 - Fedor loads up a giant over hand left, misses completely, gets tagged by an Arlovski right straight.

2:34 - Fedor comes in with an ugly wide open body shot, leaving his chin wide open, for which Arlovski once again tags, albeit lightly.

2:41 - Fedor once again lunges with a looping overhand right that misses by a mile, clearly gets tagged with a counter uppercut, short left. The two then clinch.

4:14 - blistering 1-2 from Arlovski, with the right cross landing flush. Fedor throws a half ass left hook counter that hits nothing but air.

4:29 - stiff jab to the body from Arlovski that moves Fedor back.

4:33 - another one two from Arlovski, again with the right straight reeling Fedor back. Immediately followed by a push kick that hurts Fedor.

We already know Fedor's grappling is the shit, but had he done that with a real boxer, or hell, anyone with some real power on his straights, Fedor would have been KO'd on multiple occasion in that fight. like lindland was against Vitor. dont get me wrong i'm huge a fedor fan buti can see his weaknesses.

Don't believe the whole BS "MMA striking is different" propaganda. The evolution of MMA is far from over.

Sure Fedor got tagged a few times but so what - He KOed the guy with one shot. Fedor always seem to find a way.

I think we can all agree a dude with superior striking ability could cause him some trouble but striking is only one aspect of MMA, basically your fucked once Fedor gets hold of you.

Word. Arlovski didn't even last one round. If he had battered Fedor for an entire round, then MAYBE I could see lauding his efforts. The bottom line is that Fedor won the striking war by starching Arlovski and that punch would have landed regardless of Arlovski's "going for the flying knee" excuse.

Endorse what? That if it had been somebody with better power landing those shots Fedor would have been in trouble? Hardly seems contentious, Fedor's boxing is garbage and he was getting hit with everything Arlovski threw. But if your Auntie had a penis, and all that. I just wish Arlovski had stuck to what was working, I think we would have been in for a fascinating fight.

The hands came down in the process of him trying for a flying knee.

notable that mma's top guy, a clinch-expert, has won his last two fights purely through striking. like hut hut says, the unpredictability makes it seem that mma is still evolving.

that said, the one predictable thing about mma right now is that fedor wins.
