.....I had it exactly the same

I didn't think the fight was that hard to score.....it was a close fight, but not every round was close....i think there are only 2, possibly 3 rounds that can be disputed

Thats what im saying. If a guy clearly wins 7 rounds and gets knocked down once it is a robbery because you won the fight. You don't have to win 12 rounds to 0 to get robbed.

In other sports if you score more points you win, they don't say thats close so we will award the game to the losing team, you have more points you win the game.

I didn't score the fight- I rarely do, simply because I find it takes at least some of the enjoyment out of the watching a bout.

I'm pretty sure I had JMM two rounds ahead though. I said to my brother who was watching with me that Pac needed the 12th to give himself a shot at saving himself from defeat, and I'm damn sure that Manny lost that twelfth round.

And  at Sly giving Manny Round 8. That was the clearest round of the fight bar the third. Isn't that the round were Pac was wincing in pain on about four of five ocassions as JMM targeted the body and Pac's wounded eye?

I know you did- I just struggled with the very notion of Stafford being able to 'reason' anything, let alone a boxing fight...

This thread just kills me. So most people, despite what they may have wanted the result to be, had Marquez winning. The scorecards with Manny winning must contain at least 1-2 clearly incorrect rounds in order to have him winning (e.g. round 8, round 12).

I am so tired of "vibe" scoring, that's not how boxing works. You don't give Manny extra rounds because you had a "feeling" he was stronger or because he dropped Marquez. Regardless of your "vibe" or "feeling", you give the rounds to the guy that won them.

Manny looked like if he went for broke, he possibly could have KO'd Marquez, but he DIDN'T. He got countered badly in most rounds and lost them. The rounds he won, he did a good job, and the knockdown was tremendous. Great punch, fast and accurate, right on the chin. But he still LOST the fight.

In the rematch(of the rematch) Manny may well bull his way in and KO Marquez in round 1 if he gets his supposed "fire" back, but that fact has no impact on THIS fight. HE LOST THIS FIGHT.

The fight was not a robbery in the "travesty" sense that we have seen so many times with fights that go to the judges, but rather in the nuts-and-bolts sense. IMO when you lay the fight out as 12 distinct rounds, it is a far reach to give Pacquiao more than 5 rounds.

You didn't have to give Manny incorrect rounds to have him win. I thought round 1 was exceptionally close. Round 7 was close. Pacquiao won rounds 3,4,9 and 10. JMM won rounds 2,8 and 11 big. That's just based off memory. I'll rewatch it this coming up weekend. Even if JMM won all the other rounds clearly it's not impossible for Pacquiao to have won. That is why the fight simply is not a robbery.

Yeah round 1 was close. After the round I was deliberating on who to give it to, and ended up giving it to Marquez, but it could well have been a Pacman round.

Right, have rewatched this fight (and it was a great fight, btw) and score it as follows:

R1. Good counter punching and distance keeping by JMM. Cagey round generally. Good exchange @ 0.30, JMM coming out slightly the better. Very close to call, but IMO the cleaner work came from JMM who also controls distance. 10-9 JMM

R2. More good counter punching by JMM. Pretty close round again until JMM wobbles Manny with solid, clean left right near the end of the round. 20-18 JMM

R3. Hard straight Rt hand by JMM @ 2.01, follwed by more clean, crisp counter work. Good response from Manny @ 1.00, landing flush. JMM down @ 0.21 from left hook landing flush. JMM almost (and arguablly was) KD again as Manny tries to finish him before the round ends. JMM uses rope to hold himself up as the bell goes. 28-28 even.

R4. Good work by both early doors. More good work by Manny @ 2.00 and throughout the round. 37-38 Pacquiao.

R5. Clean shots and crisp counter punching by JMM. Good clean right hands throughout, keeping Manny at range. 47-47 Even.

R6. Almost identical round to the fifth, with JMM keeping Manny at range and picking him off with counter rights. 57-56 JMM.

R7. Sluggish start to the round, neither men distinguished. Accidental headbutt as both men lean it @ 1.27. Both men trace @ 1.05. Good work by JMM @ 0.25 returned with interest by Manny @ 0.15. Another close round. 66-66 Even.

R8. Straight right hand to eye of Manny seens Pac wince with pain. Excellent work to the body @ 2.07 by JMM. More body work and quick right hands by JMM throughout the round. Manny looking tentative and trying to stay out of range. Clear JMM round. 76-75 JMM.

R9. Much better work by Manny as he presses forward, headhunting with the left. Catches JMM, whose defensive work is not as slick. Good round for Pac. 85-85 Even.

R10. Identikit round of the ninth. Good offensive work from Manny throughout. 94-95 Manny.

R11. JMM controlling range again and landing with clean counter shots whilst no longer getting tagged as in the previous two rounds. 104-104 Even.

R12. Close and fairly untidy early as both look for big round to finish. Good work by JMM @ 1.38, followed by more good work on the counter. Great JMM right hand @ 0.56. JMM continues to come out of flurries on top as Pax tries to headhunt. Both men wild at finish. 114-113 JMM.

Hence I have JMM winning by a single round. The only really contentious round IMO is the first, which I could easily see being scored an even round, though rounds seven could easily have been level also though I scored it for Manny.

I can understand people having the fight a draw, or one round either way depending on how you scored the 1st and the 7th. 7-5 Manny cannot be right, though.

Great, close fight. Glad I watched it again sober, actually...

See feebs? It's not like Marquez was robbed at all, I was surprised by your reaction the other night.

You scored round 1 for marquez, and so did I actually, but it was a very close and not particularly eventful round. I scored it for Marquez mainly due to starting faster if I recall.

You score that round for Pacman, which it well could have been and wham, you have Pacman as the winner.

It was a CLOSE fight. No robbery.

My reaction the other night, you should know, was largely fueled by the fact that I got to my brother's just in time to catch the Luevano fight after having been in Newcastle all night drinking pitchers of vodka with my youngest bro whose birthday it was. I, and all of those present (and still conscious) also had the same problem...

I don't recall saying it was a 'robbery', but if I did then I herewith retract it.

My point, if I recall correctly, was that Jaws was trying to convince all and sundry that Pac won 7-5. I couldn't see, and definitely cannot see now, how anyone can give that fight to Manny by 7-5. If you presume one of those 7 rounds to be the 'ten eight' third round, then Manny wins by three points.

That cannot be IMO Mex. You can have that fight a draw or one point either way. Three points (or two rounds) to Manny is absurd.

I had it 114-113 for Marquez.

I can see it 6-6 and either even (b/c of even rounds) or a 1 pt. win to Manny because of the KD.

I absolutely cannot see Manny winning 7 rounds or more...and most of those who do have Pacquiao winning seem to agree with that.

    I had it:

    Marquez - Pacquiao
    1. 9 - 10
    2. 10 - 9
    3. 8 - 10
    4. 9 - 10
    5. 10 - 9
    6. 10 - 9
    7. 10 - 9
    8. 10 - 9
    9. 9 - 10
    10. 9 - 10 (gave to Pac, but JMM staggers Manny at :37ss)
    11. 10 - 9
    12. 10 - 9

    114-113 Marquez; 7-5 in rounds.

    Peace.

Anyone who has JMM by 1 point absolutely shouldn't say it's a robbery considering the end of round 3. JMM held himself up CLEARLY with his gloves which is a KD.

Exactly. His brother just lost a fight in this way 2 weeks ago. Round 3 should've been 10-7 according to the rules of how KDs are scored.

when I see these round by rounds, its as if you're looking for whatever you can to give Marquez the round. "Controlling distance, landing smoother counters, etc."

Pacquiao landed the better punches, and I'll rewatch it to give a detailed blow-by-blow just for the imbeciles who think a close round goes to the guy who won the "superior looking technique" portion of the round

Most people had the fight going either way. But Honestly I don't think even Pacquiao thought he won.

When he heard the decision he reminded me of Mosley after the DLH rematch. He looked like he hit the lotto when the decision was announced.

Well Pac isn't used to being in that position, he rarely needs the cards to even be read when he wins a fight.

Marquez on the other hand...
