There's no doubt Joshua made some mistakes but it was more due to him being OVERCONFIDENT than anything. Once he got himself together and focused more, Whyte couldn't hurt him after that.

I think Joshua will become a BETTER fighter after this.

Good fight. Enjoyed it. Joshua tested for the first time and he came back well to score an impressive KO. But there were real flaws to be seen there. I call bullshit on the 'he wasn't hurt' line coming out of that fight. He was hurt. Badly hurt. Question marks about the chin remains IMO. I saw a guy who couldn't avoid a right hand to save his life. Whyte, give him credit, was better than I thought. Game as fuck, good chin and quick, especially with the left jab which he scored with plenty early doors. Joshua struggled until Whyte gassed. And Whyte landed lots and lots of good punches. Joshua didn't look like budging him until he hit him with the temple shot that started the finishing combo. Temple shots are usually luckier than deliberate...:dunno:

On the plus side, Joshua looked great going forward. He landed lots of excellent 1-2 combinations. The finishing uppercut was an absolute beauty. He recovered well from moments of real danger and dominated prior to a brutal KO.

Depends what you are looking for. At last we saw things, though.

Right now he beats Wlad though, sadly. Wlad is just as sloppy with his punches these days when you watch the Jennings and Fury fight. At this point Joshua is more accurate and isn't completely terrified to throw a punch. I think He would have gotten Wlad outta there. Wlad can't take what Whyte took, imo.

Looking at the fight for the first time....

I'm concerned with Joshua's stamina. I'm not too worried about his chin, time will tell on that one, but stamina seems to be an issue....and that's a BIG problem.

I thought the same but once he settled from the 5th onwards he seemed fine to me.

True, he seemed to get a second wind. In any event I pick him to beat Wlad and Deontay...he should beat Fury too, but if Fury could fight him at a high pace and drag him into deep waters it could be bad for him.

Joshua is a damned good finisher though. I'm on the Joshua bandwagon all the way anyway. I see a potential stamina issue, not too worried about his chin, but his power, heart, quick recovery and finishing ability should be too much for any other heavyweight out there. Nobody's perfect.

After watching the fight again, Joshua didn't look as HURT as it appeared initially.

I think his stamina suffered a bit because he threw at such a high rate in those first two rounds. And even though he was staggered by the left hook, he kept his composure and actually FOUGHT BACK and landed some powerful shots on Whyte. By the 4th round, he appeared to have gotten his rhythm back and he was outboxing Whyte.

Joshua will need to learn to PACE himself but that will come with experience. Young Lennox Lewis was the same until Manny got a hold of him and settled him down. I think Joshua will be the same.

Many forget that he is still DEVELOPING and if you watch his earlier fights, you see how far he's come. Heavyweights always almost always mature in their late 20s-early 30s anyway.

There is plenty of upside. He just needs to pace himself better and use the jab a little bit more. That WILL come with experience.

Yup, he was shaken up a little but he recovered quickly...showing that he couldn't have been badly hurt. I think he passed the chin test.

He showed some vulnerabilities in this fight, but still I think he's the best heavyweight out there, even right now. Ideal scenario is for him to face Deontay Wilder next, which should be a great brief brawl (Jefferson vs Harris type shootout)...I'd expect him to win that one in style and then fight the winner of the Wlad vs Fury rematch by the end of 2016.

He took some and returned fire. Not the worst chin out there. Very few would have taken that final delivery.

I don't see it in Wilder. He has a huge cross and some movement but otherwise I think he is far more basic than Johsua.

Right now I would pick Fury and Haye over Joshua though

Don't think that chin of Fury's would get him past 7 against AJ who will actually throw punches at it.

Joshua is predictable....jab RH, jab to the body. Repeat. His 1-2 can be seen a mile off.

That said, he has heart, good power, big guy, that all helps.

Parker will give him a hard time.

Yeah once AJ's methods didn't work he resorted to more methods........and hitting the guy after the bell.

I agree with Feebles overall consensus.

    Agreed.

The ending came after Whyte, almost deliberately, walked onto one, even though Joshua was measuring him with the left straight-arm at the same time.

that's one thing about Joshua. He doesn't have much variation. Was still a good gut check last night.
