I never understood the hype behind Wilder.

He's today's version of Michael Grant.

 

Joshua too slow and robotic? My bad. I wasn't aware that Beyonce Wilder had the fluidity of Ray Leonard.

The article is atrocious. But i would put big money on Wilder right now. I think that after last night AJ will slow down a bit, and take a few soft touch to get more experience. As i sais previously, hes a tremendous prospect, but hes far from a finished product

 

TBH, The fight probably made me feel a little less confident about AJ as the HW savior, than more confident. He comes STR8 forward, no head movement, doesn't set up his shots, so he would be very catchable coming in, is fairly predictable in his offense, and has very little defense. Also, his chin does not look granite by any means, & he seemed to not take it well to the body. Lots of room for improvement.

Couldn't agree more, especially on the stamina part, he looked absolutely fine in round 7 of a heavyweight fight where he tried to finish a guy and got wobbled in the process and showed high work rate throughout. Put the Klitschko of today or from the Puritty fight in that position and you see what happened.

Wlad at that point in his career had a more refined offense, a better left hook and looked a bit fluid but I think Joshua showed a lot more in terms of stamina and chin and didn't panic at all after being hit hard. I can't see how anybody could label him anything else than a top prospect of any heavyweight era which easily translates into a top 5 contender in this era.

Klitschko, 2 years younger than Joshua and 20 pounds lighter, got hit by a better left hook from a better fighter in Monte Barrett and was barely budged by it.

Ross Purritty was more durable than Dillian Whyte, having gone the distance with Corrie Sanders and Tommy Morrisson, whom he decked twice en route to a draw.

Klitschko was also outweighed by 20lbs on the night he fought Purritty and he threw a lot more leather than Joshua did against Whyte, against a man bigger and more proven than Whyte.

You show me one, just one passage where I said Wilder was

1. Any good.

2. Better than Joshua.

 

I think it's because Wladimir always gave the impression that he was mentally weak, not just a case of him either getting KTFO or his gas tank failing him in fights.

Sure Joshua has his flaws. No denying it. But he did fight back when hurt and even if he would have lost, he still fought back. Can we REALLY say the same about Wladimir? In his fight with Samuel Peter, it looked like he was knocked down more due to FEAR than actually being hit by hard punches. We know what happened in his losses already.

Nothing to tell so far if Joshua will attain the success that Wladimir did. But one thing we can for sure say is that Joshua keeps his composure when hurt. At least the one time we've seen him hurt, he did.

Wlad it seems to me, falls apart when he feels he's not in complete control of the situation.

 

I don't disagree with that, at all.....apart from the Sam Peter bit.

Then there is Golota, who falls apart, when he is in complete control and knows he is in complete control.

I think being in control was Golotas Q to fall apart.

 

I just checked out this Joseph Parker character. He looks decent, but he's fought a bunch of old fat men and New Zealand sheep shaggers. He's seriously unproven....and he doesn't look as good as Joshua in terms of power or accuracy.

 

Aye. There's talent there for sure but he needs a lot of refining and he isn't going to get it fighting superbums down under.

 

So two days after saying David Haye was on the agenda, Joshua now says he's not ready for David Haye.

I didn't read it but it is fair enough to re-evaluate, if you have stuff you need to work on (which he clearly does) then work on it. I always thought it was a bit early to take on the likes of Haye, who whilst overrated is a fast guy with a big right hand (the punch AJ is most susceptible to at the moment).

 

It's a sensible approach.

It cracks me up when you have an up and coming fighter and people are naming off the top guys who he could beat (based on what?), yet the fighter himself knows damn well he's not ready to take that step.

He says he'd fight Chisora. I wonder if Joshua-Price would drum up any interest or is Price absulutely finished?
