It is not ONLY that. Reed argues that the Mayweathers are superior because they are drug dealing, wife beating, thugs but in Reed's world that is fine so long as you act like you are.  Freddy doesn't pretend to be anything other than what he is. Most people who know him say he is a decent guy. He also seems to mention he can flip out sometimes. He told the story about telling James Toney he was going to have to kill him before he let James call him a bitch one more time and he punched some dude in the face in the recent past. Reed has problems with proper behavior. Roach's job is to deal with the media and run a business. You sometimes have to be polite doing that. Yeah, what a fake bitch asshole. I love when fight fans get moralistic. It is absurd to me. You guys like to watch people beat the shit out of each other for a living, but god forbid if they raise their voice. GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE.

Back on topic. I saw it and it was pretty dull. I am a big fan of Floyd's talent but seems like a pretty weak willed, gulible man. I think the truth about Floyd is his hip hop image is half fake. I know he had legal problems but he doesn't seem like either a nice guy or a criminal. His arrogance is clearly a facade. hE Obviously knows he can fight, but the rest of it is an act. His so called family are a bunch of animals. Families have people that don't get along but my gosh. Do the Mayweathers have ANY dignity, airing out their family squabbles out there. Roger talking shit on his own brother. Floyd sr. coming into camp saying they can't win without him. Fight when the cameras are off you idiots. I think PBF's trash family is the reason he is so good. He trains like a fiend to get away from them.

This is 100% true. Freddy hates Roy. I met him the night of Tyson-Etienne, which was the week before Jones-Ruiz.

I asked Freddy who he thought would win (Jones or Ruiz) and he picked Ruiz to KO Roy mainly because he didn't like him. When asked why, he simply said that Roy "ducked" too many guys. When I asked him "who" the first name he brought up was Steve Collins.

My response was, "isn't Collins the guy who couldn't mention Roy's name until AFTER he'd been retired?" At the time I didn't know that Roach trained Steve Collins but there was no response to my question, but he brought up James Toney. Mind you, this was a month or so prior to Toney vs Jirov so this predates Toney's resurrgence. I'm guessing Toney's anger towards Roy rubbed off on Freddy.

With all of that said, Roach was a nice guy. I know I've told this story numerous times, but after the post-fight press conference he and I talked so long that Tyson left without him. We were chatting about boxing and stuff then looked up and nearly everyone was gone, the camera crews, everyone.

Since he and his cousin were stuck without a ride, I offered to drive them to Tunica (which is 40 miles or so) from Memphis. That's when we got into the discussion about Jones & Ruiz.

Freddy was cool, though it was obvious he had a serious dislike for Roy. That's the worst I can say about him. He asked for my business card (which I gave him) and a week or so later he sent me a thank you note and a Wildcard t-shirt.

I'll also say this about Floyd...

I only met him once and that was after his fight with N'dou. Initially Floyd came out to greet the media by himself. When he was alone, he couldn't have been nicer. Not just to the media, but with everyone who came up to him and asked for autographs etc.

    "However"

Once the rest of his crew showed up, that's when he turned into the jackass 24/7 shows 90% of the time. It was as though someone turned on a switch and a completely different guy came out. Sadly, it didn't seem like acting. It was like to polar opposites of his personality came out and each was a geniune as the other.

THAT'S the cat I want to see get stretched in a few weeks.

I'm always leery of people who switch up that quickly. I always think they're unstable and can mentally crumble at any moment. Neil knows Floyd better than anyone on this board and I'm sure he'd agree that Floyd's a different guy when his "crew" isn't around.

Also, I haven't seen any footage of Floyd sparring...only hitting the bag.

They've shown brief clips of Oscar sparring.

i've now watched the first two installments. in the first one, they made PBF out to be a real villain, and ODH a saint. but the second one was much more even-handed.

there was even an embarrassing part at the end in which PBF's eyes teared up as he described his loveless child-hood.

also, PBF's doctor spoke up about what a nice guy PBF is, "at least from what I've seen of him."

That was the open media workout he had last week so they won't show him in any sparring.

I think only people in his crew are allowed to film him sparring. There isn't much of recent Mayweather sparring sessions period let alone leading up to this fight so the chances of seeing him in a sparring session might be nil.

Floyd just keeps doing that same old memorized routine of hitting the pads ....
It's a memorized routine. It's always the same exact thing.
After doing that a couple of thousand times , its not a workout , its a little show ...

i'm sure it helps with his hand-eye coordination, but i agree with you that it's a gimmick designed to make him look like he's unhittable.

i thought it was funny when Roger called into the press conference pretending to be a fan. Freddy Roach was like, "can you please speak English?" Roger was just joking around, but Freddy got pissed off.

My initial thought when Roach told Roger to please speak english reminded me of an argument I once heard. It was between a pot and a kettle. Roach may not be as bad off as Roger, but they both got there the same way.

PBF likes to think of himself as and old G, that would explain why he was so far up 50’s ass.

I've liked the show so far. Much more then I expected I would. I usually hate these pre-fight hype-athons.

It's been documented that Floyd is a gambling addict and carries his money around like a little kid. Anybody else think he's going to be broke shortly after he ends his career?

Also, what's with the photo-shoots? Does Mayweather think he's going to out-bling Oscar by flashing dollar bills at the camera. Oscar has at least 20 times the fortune of Floyd. :dunno:

That said, Floyd looks impressive in training. Oscar has better sparring but Floyd just looks crazy intense in his sessions. Oscar looks a little too comfortable in his life..................a little too soft. Floyd looks like he wants it more.

I was leaning towards Oscar in the beginning because of the size disparity but I think Floyd will adapt well to the differance.

Floyd will be broke in a few years, don't worry about after his career is over. He had a $450,000 tax lien levied against his Judah purse. Mind you, he was comiing off a $5 million payday from the Gatti fight the previous year.

I hate to see guys behave irresponsibly with money. I remember Eddie Murphy talking about how he carried around large amounts of cash until he realized that his "guys" who watched his wallet while he was on the set mysteriously "lost" his money...repeatedly.

It's times like this which makes me wish that Michael Jordan could sit down with Floyd and talk to him about how foolish he's being with his money.

Jordan would probably tell him to take the Packers and the points. Better might be somebody he could relate to in the sport like Larry Holmes.

Has an athlete ever actually turned a profit with their "record company"?

I'd recommend Tiger Woods as a guy Floyd could talk to "however" Tiger walked out on the Baldomir fight which tells you what he thinks of Floyd's brilliance.

On the other hand, I don't recall hearing that Tiger walked out on the Federer matches he attended.

Floyd needs a bigger entourage of hang arounds. That way you know out of all those people he'll get some good financial advice.

Muzse...NOBODY walks out on Tennis matches. It's a smaller crowd, you are more conspicuous...and tennis is all about being "gentlemany" etc. Totally different culture...not analous.
