I've been saying this for years but seeing as how I'm one of the most ignored posters on this site, nobody ever said anything about it. Worst thing is, before the Cotto fight, Shane could have simply been the "latino killer", now he has to just settle for the "mexican killer".

Cotto, the only latino to have a win over Shane and that was a fight Shane could have and should have won.

    1) Matchup is older than Neil

    2) Matchup knows as much about boxing as any person I've met, including Steve_Dave and Jake. He just doesn't post about it.

He's OLDER than Neil, yet STILL ADMITTEDLY Only Started Watching the Sport LESS than 9 Years Ago???....That's CRIMINAL, Dude...Boxing Fans R BORN, NOT Developed...

Fuuuuuuuuuurthermore, U're ONLY Playing Captain Save-a-Ho BECAUSE he's a Member of YOUR Clique, Even though Dude OPENLY CRITICIZED REED when Bigdawg Spoke on HIS Behalf...

    and I started being a die-hard in 2003/2004.

I never watched boxing before that apart from a Tyson fight every now and then.

I learned everything from purchased tapes and chats with my brother, who'd gotten his hands of fight archives as well.

Aptitude for something is not necessarily born...

PERSPECTIVE on Boxing is Most Definitely BORN., Jaws...When a So-called "Hardcore" Fan, that Only Began Watching Boxing N the 00's, Get's HIGH & MIGHTY w/a So-Called "Hardcore" Fan that Began Watching the Sport 20-30 Years PRIOR to the 00's, that Speaks VOLUMES...If the Older Guy is Rocking DEPEND Undergarments, that'll Probably LEVEL the Playing Field...But Otherwise, the Younger Guy is @ a DISadvantage...

Guaranteed, when YOU Get to the Point that U've Accumulated 20-30 Years of HARDCORE Fandom Under YOUR Belt, U'll B DAMNED if Some 5-10 Year Motherfucker QUESTIONS your Shit...& WHEN that Happens, U'll VIVIDLY Recall this Very Post REED is Typing on YOUR Behalf...

That DOESN'T mean that the Older Guy is Always Right, but GENERALLY Speaking, he's Got a PERSPECTIVE & a PERCEPTION of How Guys were Thought of, that a NEWER Fan CANNOT Obtain:nono:...

For Instance, it's EASY to Look Back & Call Tommy Hearns CHINNY, but UNTIL Sugar Ray Leonard ROCKED him N their 1st Fight, NOBODY had Seen Hearns Hurt...He was BLOWING THRU Guys Left & Right w/Out Even Getting HIT Most Times...So The Fact that Leonard was THE FIRST Guy to REVEAL Hearn's Chin Speaks VOLUMES....

Fuuuuuurthermore, the Fact that U ONLY Started ACTIVELY Watching Boxing N the Last 5-6 Years FULLY EXPLAINS your DISrespect of Roy Jones...He was Officially PAST his Best PRIOR to when YOU Even Started Being a Hardcore Fan:lol:....If U were Actually AROUND when James Toney was a FEARED, UNDEFEATED Fighter, U'd BETTER Appreciate Roy's Win Over Him...If U'd SEEN Virgil Hill Rack Up Half a Hundred Title Defenses (Winning MOST & NEVER Being Stopped), U'd have a BETTER Appreciation for Roy FOLDING his Ass w/a SINGLE BodyShot...

Watching Fights N HINDSIGHT Minimizes the TRUE Level of THREAT the Opponent Posed...Yet U BOLDLY Talk SHIT about the Opposition of Guys, who BEGAN their Careers 15 YEARS PRIOR to when YOU Actually Gave a Shit about Boxing???...

another way to look at this, is to say people who watch the fights in retrospect are able to eliminate the biases someone watching it in the day may have.

FOR EXAMPLE, "Dominick Guinn has all the tools to become a great HW"

"Audley Harrison is the next lennox lewis"

"Juan Diaz is the next great lightweight"

the list goes on and on.

Sometimes you can gain perspective by not being skewed by the common perception.

You are right to a degree but all of the examples you listed are for the future, not the present or the past. When looking at fighters from a HISTORICAL perspective, you can't deny the old timers their knowledge.

No one can predict the future of a fighter so in that aspect it's 50/50. However,if you say Audley Harrison is a Larry Holmes in the making, you better expect the "older" fans to have a harsh reaction.

if you actually watch boxing and you are skewed by bullshit like that then you don't know what the fuck you're seeing.

Generally Speaking, NEWER Fans R MORE Susceptible to "Bias" than More TENURED Fans R...

REED Thought Guinn MIGHT B the Goods, but NEEDED to See More...After the Monte Barrett Fight, it was OBVIOUS that he WASN'T...As for Harrison, REED NEVER EVER Believed N him...Diaz???...

Don't Get REED WRONG, New Fans R Obviously IMPORTANT to Boxing, but they're @ an OBVIOUS DISadvantage when Discussing Guys that Fought OUTSIDE of their Particular Veiwing "Wheelhouse"...

there is room for all kinds of fans guys. and it does not have to be a contest about who allegedly knows more or less.

I have never been a hard core boxing fan... I just enjoy the fights, enjoy the technicalities of the sport in some respects and enjoy some fighters history, the history of the game and in particular the heavy weight division... so what does that mean? that I should not opine because of my lack of knowledge?

Boxing used to be more egaitarian... in the day everyone, not just the talking heads knew about the heavyweight champ. Look every now and then a guy who really knows what they are talking about tells me to shut the fuck up about something... but other than that we need all kinds of fans to let the sport grow... my two cents
