Don't think so, although Noguiera probably revolutionised the sport in fighting off his back, Fedor in my opinion revolutionised the sport by the ease inwhich he seems to get out of that position, from all the fights I've seen of him, he's extremely difficult to keep down.
Yep It's one of the things that sets Fedor apart not only from other heavyweights but from anyone in the sport.
Another thing that sets Fedor apart is that he doesn't just attack or react, he EXPLODES. The guys at heavyweight aren't used to dealing with that. It's what sets him apart from fighters like Crocop and Nogueira. They may have great skills, but they aren't as consistently explosive as Fedor. Sylvia has had people attack him before, but he has never had anyone explode on him like Fedor did.
A fighter would need GSP wrestling, BJ Penn Ju Jitsu, Anderson Silva stand up just to be competitive with Fedor.
:: Rainmaker just asks retarded questions on purpose. I gotta admit I do like me a bit of Fedor. He's an incredible fighting machine, but the most amusing thing is really the way his looks belie his obscene fighting prowess. He doesn't look scary or intimidating in the slightest.
Probably quite a few to be honest. He really does just look like a podgy little Russian guy. Well not little, but you get my point ;) Interesting Mark Hunt did pretty well against Fedor. The fact that he is very heavy, combined with being short with low centre of gravity, Fedor had a hard time taking him down. In fact Hunt managed to counter 2 of his takedown attempts and ended up being on top of Fedor. Plus he did well standing up too. Ultimately though, Fedor was just the more versatile fighter, with better stamina.
When Bas was in his prime, he was mediocre on the ground. He got much better towards the end of his career, but he couldn't defend takedowns at all, and Fedor would have mauled him from the top. Fedor would have ground and pounded him. I really loved watching Bas fight, but at his best he was life and death with Masakatsu Funaki and Ken Shamrock. I know that many people think it is sacrilege to say that so-and-so can beat Bas because he's an all-time great, but even the all-time greats could be beaten. Ken Shamrock did it to him twice.:dunno:
No doubt. Hunt had a couple of sick kimura attempts that didn't even seem to phase Fedor. What I loved is that it seemed Fedor intentionally cranked the kimura on Hunt as pay back.
I agree. Even when Hunt was twisting his wrist and elbow, Fedor never changed his stoic expression. It obviously pissed him off though because once they got back to their feet he absolutely went beserk on Hunt.
