He's a "Groupie" N REVERSE:: ... He Talks MORE about Floyd than ANY of his So-Called "Favorite" Fighters... REED
Kauki, watch Hopkins fight previous to fighting Taylor, which was against Eastman. Then watch his fights against Glenn Johnson, or Echols. You cant HONESTLY tell me that thier the same fighter. The decline is APPARENT if you watch the differance in those fights. Once again I will say that Hopkins last prime performance was against Carl Daniels. After that fight, I began to notice decline. The decline was quite clear in his third fight with Robert Allen. Theres no way in holy hell that Taylor "beat" a prime Hopkins.
Still debatable. Monzon, and Hagler woulda beaten the shit outta Johnson in the same fashion in which Hopkins did it. Still, he'd have an excellent chance of beating both. But having said that, I'd make him a VERY slight underdog to both.
Yeah but Jake , DLH was not there to just be pumbled like Johnson. DLH is WAY faster of both foot and hand compared to Johnson. Not to mention he is a better technical fighter. Hopkins fought like that because he was able to do so. I know he was more prime back then. However Johnson was just there for the taking. Some of the things Bernard did to Johnson , he wouldn't neccisarily be able to do Vs someone else.
Thats up for debate. Johnson really looked horrible - and not just because of Bernard. He looked horrible just straight up. Anyway , Oscar is not a middle weight. My point was - and really has nothing to do with Oscar , Bernard was doing what he was doing more so because of the way Johnson was fighting. Bernard at that exact point in time Vs someone else , he might of had to use a different kind of fight stratagy.
You know, I started to say the Trinidad fight in my earlier post, but felt it was more ridiculous that people claimed he was still in his prime at the time of the DLH fight. But I wasn't talking about the Bernard that literally fought DLH that night. I was talking about that time frame in general. Take it back 9 months earlier to Dec. 2003, when he fought Joppy. The Hopkins from the Johnson fight and around that time frame stops Joppy, I have no doubt in my mind. The older Hopkins? Not quite as agile, and not even as strong. That was my point - this time frame was Bernard at his best. 1995-1997 was his optimal prime, at least in my eyes.
I'll agree with that. I also do agree that the Hopkins from the Johnson fight would have stopped Joppy. Even though the older Hopkins opted to just swell his head up like an over ripend tomato... ::
yeah that was some grotesquee shit. And you know he was trying his damnest to knock dude out, as they had the $50,000 side bet. Dammit if Joppy didn't give him every opportunity to win that bet ::
