Now you have it. Respect and reverence are one thing......I think that there are guys like Winky Wright who are revered and who wouldn't last pissing time with Joe Calzaghe.

I think Joe deserves to be remembered as one of the better southpaws that ever fought.

    Was Tiger Flowers a Southpaw?

not really sure how you judge hagler a guy entering the ring in the low 160s vs calzaghe a guy coming in above 180. hagler was better/more talented/more proven/less pussified/less of a fiend for yay, thats for sure.

I favored him to beat Calzaghe....so? Doesn't change the fact that Kessler has turn out to be completely average.

That's nice. Marvin made his reputation fighting guys coming UP to 160....Hearns, Duran, Leonard......now we are supposed to feel sorry for his slow bald ass being on the receiving end of a size deficiency.

Calzaghe stood in front of Jeff Lacy for 36 minutes and I think he got hit cleanly once. He had skills to burn.

Off course he was a white European so old Neil deems it fit to dismiss him.

Ahh, so it's the old revisionist bullshit...

...Kessler is average but he just beat an unbeaten, legitimate champion in his last fight.

I agree with your general point about Hagler here, although I will say those were some truly fantastic fighters who were coming up (sans Duran, who had slipped quite a way), much better than anything Calzaghe dreamed of.

Still, I get what you're saying.

Pacquiao has been sparked out and beaten by Morales, won't fight Floyd, might be on gear. Drew with Marquez.

I'd rate him higher...but some vaguely defined "three-tiers".......nah.

Does that make him "five tiers" ahead of Winky Wright.

Tiger Flowers should be on the list. I'll guess he should be under "other".

    Okay, I'll bite, again.

Calzaghe's reign was garbage, apparently. So who, bar Ottke (who never left Germany) and RJJ (who admitted he had no interest at all in Calzaghe) did Calzaghe not fight

    It's not Joe's fault he didn't have over-fed 135lbsrs to feed on.

Joe would have beaten the shit out of Tony Sibson and Alan Minter.

Joe was pushing 40 when he found a way to come off the mat to figure out Hopkins and again, for a guy with no skills, did something nobody ever really did with Jones when he dropped his hands and smiled at the man. Sure, Roy was well past it, but Joe just dropped his hands and stood there. Never got hit, outside of the first round, and that was a forearm.

The notion that Hagler had something Calzaghe didn't....I don't buy it. People have forgotten how bad Hagler looked against Ray Leonard.....Hagler looked terrible

The 'Froch' effect strikes again. How is Froch average exactly? He sparked Taylor out in his hometown, battered Pascal who just beat Dawson and handled that cowardly little bitch who just beat unbeaten MW champion Abraham.

    Yeah, but Froch is 'average'...:shit::shit:

Froch must be the only guy who gets called loads of shit despite holding wins over the guy who just beat a top 5 P4P fighter, an unbeaten guy and the former undisputed MW champ.

    Some average.

No Calazghe did not have 135 pounders to feed on, he fought the Salem, Veits, Sheika, Pudwill, Ashira, etc...etc....of the world...

SO...Calzaghe would beat the shit out of Minter and Sibson?? So what? Hagler did the same.....

Hagler didn't look his best in the final fight of his career..wow...Calzaghe threw more punches than an old Hopkins, he didn't figure nothing out...and yet he only won by a two/3 points...

both are considerably higher caliber than pudwill, who is a midwestern BUM. burton was not a title fight either.

the fact that snortzaghe defended against that clown and mcIntyre is truly a disgrace to boxing.

Most people, yourself included, wouldn't rate Calzaghe above Hagler, Pacquiao or Whitaker...so "other" is fair to include him and others that realistically are not as revered.
