In super middle history, who's the best guy you reckon Canelo could beat?

Now, let's just eliminate Roy from this conversation. I dont think there's anyone of sane mind who would pick Canelo over the 168 Roy. But that's not an indictment against Canelo.

    That leaves guys like:

    Ward
    Calz
    Toney
    Froch
    Kessler
    Eubank Sr
    Collins
    Bute
    Liles
    Ottke
    Benn

How does Canelo fare against that list?

For me, Froch is the best guy I would favor him over.

I think he's out his depth against Ward, Calz, Toney.

But Froch is quality, so I consider it a Camelo compliment.

Tough to say. The Leonard of the Lalonde fight still had considerable power and handspeed. I wouldn't rule him out.

Even 89 Leonard is several levels above Smith and Blow Job.

Lalonde woulda killed Smith and BJ.

Canelo is obviously very good but it's important to remember that 168 today is basically dogshit. That pikey who stood around posturing and pulling faces is probably the fourth best, at worst, 168lber around today. That's how bad it is.

There is a massive gap between Smith, BJ and guys like Froch. Massive. And Froch is one of those guys who was widely picked to lose to everyone decent he faced, yet, with one exception (and one rematch), he didn't. He was vulnerable to speedly slicksters. Canelo ain't one of those.

I don't see Canelo beating Froch, personally.

I dont see Canelo having much success vs Sugar Ray, even at the higher weights

Froch is taller, longer, and much harder/bigger than the brits that Canelo has been fighting, and he hits harder than ALL of them too. Khan is faster, that's it.

Froch would beat the every living daylights out of Blow Job Saunders..........I know now that's the case. T

I think Ottke is Canelo's best chance.

It's funny. He's famous for his exploits at 160 and 168 and 175 and he'd lose to almost all the best recent guys I can think of at those weights :Jest:

Calzaghe beats Canelo so badly.........it would be Floyd with bells on.

    Agreed.

Froch is 6'1 and coming in around 177, 178. He's got arms like an octopus, he's taken the Sunday punches of guys who can hit harder than Canelo and finished those guys.

One thing I fancy from Canelo is his concise body shots.........but I don't see the volume, the pressure, the general relentless needed to stop Froch from doing what he does.

Kessler was able to do it for 12 rounds.

And Froch won't in there flicking backhands, jack-in-the-box shit.

If Canelo can't dominate GGG, he can't dominate Froch.

    Froch for me.

There's a cussedness about Froch that is simply absent from a lot of the guys Canelo has beaten.

And remember folks...........Froch was running around the ring after Ward and making him spit his gumshield out. :Jest: And this AFTER Ward punched Froch in the head for fun for 8 rounds.........8 rounds of free shots and Ward was being chased around.

And Ward is just bigger and better than Canelo, especially at that weight.

    Size matters, eventually.

Bute might survive for a bit. Bute was a phony. I never liked him. But he's a step right up from Saunders.

Saunders is not a 168lbr. I always had him booked as a 154lbr. Somehow he got classed as a Middle. Ok.

    But 168? Nah.

I think Canelo would walk DeGale down in a hard fight. He'd have to drag the dog out of DeGale.

I think Canelo's latest outings are bit underrated.

Callum Smith did knock out Groves, who gave a hard fight for Froch. Yes, boxing isn't linear, yes, Groves might not have been at his best, yes, maybe it was a past prime Froch. Still it doesn't seem like they were in entirely different leagues

I saw an interview of Frank Warren making excuses for saunders saying he was the smaller man and is more of a middle weight. Lets be honest at 5"10 I'm not sure Canelo is a true 168. I think Canelo struggles with any of the top 168 obviously Ward. But I give him a chance. Ward Struggled against Kovalev and Canelo demolished Kovalev. So not saying Canelo beats Ward but its not like he would be out classed. Btw that floyd fight happened when Canelo was 23 a pup. Way diffrent story vs a prime Canelo.

Saunders was the kind of fighter that people love to downplay or dismiss, but nobody seems to want to get in the ring with and take care of for themselves.

The Groves that fought Smith was faded from the Groves that gave Froch problems, and Froch was in his late 30s when he fought Groves.

Everyone knows I'm no fan of Froch, but Froch would have battered Smith and Saunders.

Saunders is in danger of becoming a bit of a Hatton in becoming underrated post-Loss.

But in Saunders case- he deserves it.

Saunders literally had 2 noteworthy- maybe three if you included Turdbank- point wins on his ledger.

    That's it.

And had the Lee fight gone another round he'd have drawn it. He had 2 knockdowns that got him over the line.

And yet- as a shifty lefty- he found, as I suspected he would, more than enough in himself to drag rounds out of Canelo and extend him a bit. Cos Saunders has a radar and deploys it well. But it's a damage limitation thing, it mirrors his outlook in life, as much-as-possible for as little-as-possible.

Froch is just vastly more prove than Saunders but it's not his resume or his size or anything per se that gives him the edge over Saunders.

It's mentality. Like Canelo, Froch will have a very certain mentality which will involve basically taking a giant shit on Saunders attitude. Froch has shit bigger men than Saunders. He wouldn't give two hoots for Saunders "people" and their pre-fight horseshit.

Saunders boxes like he lives life- smirking and grinning his way around. His entire outlook involves imposing his smirky little style on people.

Lee was vulnerable and a bit shopworn. Lemieux is one-way. Turdbank is a retard. They fell for it.

Froch would just keep coming on in the same old way. Saunders would wilt from the realization that Froch was utterly unafraid of him and utterly unimpressed by his smirky shifty jive ass ways.

And then , just as in life, Saunders would start looking for a way out, a smirky little way out.

I had one of them call to my door yesterday.

    Brazen as you like.

"Do you want your gutters cleaned".

    "No thanks, no work".

    "They need cleaning".

    "Sorry Mate".

"Who painted the fence, got paint all over the drive".

    "No work, thanks".

"paint all over this, did you do this yourself".

    "No work, thanks".

And then the cunt smirked , with his half-melted inbred face and said "Sorry to have disturbed you" and fucked off.

I waited inside- he was probably expecting the old dear to answer the door having been given a nice tip off by the lot of gyppos she had doing the driveway {they wanted £2500 for the little front wall, I got it done for £750} but he fucked off.

    That's how they operate.

Anyways off topic but just wanted to show what smirky confidence-men they are. Stand up to them they are fuck all.

Canelo would trouble Froch early imo before succumbing to Froch's extremely underrated feint selection and adaption abilities. Froch ends up jabbing his face off for a decision win. Imagine Canelo's gas tank against Froch's?

Kessler would be a good bout, but I still favour Kessler. He was very tidy and tough.

I can see Canelo beating Bute.

I'm exactly 5'10. Medical and sports doctor confirmed and everything. Matthew Hatton said that Canelo was no more than an inch taller than him, if at all. I am way more than two inches taller than Matt, and Matt also said I'm definitely taller than Canelo; since I've already asked. Canelo is not five ten.

I met Ricky Hatton for the first time a few days ago, and there's no way he's an inch taller than five six. I really do think most boxers heights are exaggerated.

Even on the TOTT for the Smith fight, the DAZN commentators noted how Canelo being listed as 5'9 was generous to say the least.

I don't class Canelo as an 'Elite' fighter in an all time sense, since I have very high standards for that. He is definitely an Elite current fighter though.
