There's a lot of great fighters at 155, but I think Eddie Alvarez can beat them all. He's gonna be a monster for EliteXC, starting Friday night. TFK
He didn't get dominated, but he did lose. The fight was at 175, which is way too heavy of a weight class for Alvarez to be fighting in. If you saw the fight, you could see Thompson looked enormous compared to Alvarez. Alvarez will be fighting in EliteXC's 160 LB class, (except for Friday, which is at a catch weight of 165), and he's gonna dominate. He'll run right through Noons, Diaz, Bennett or anyone else they throw at him. TFJ
........... I saw the fight which is why I mentioned he was dominated. I thought he pretty much just got beat up. Smaller or not I wasn't very impressed.
Here's the fight...***(Edit...sorry, put the wrong youtube clip in. Fixed it.)*** Hardly a dominating effort. The first round was close, and Alvarez was winning the second round (it was close) until he got caught. And you can see Thompson's huge size advantage was giving Alvarez trouble. Thompson was smart to back out of a rematch twice against Alvarez. He knew he wouldn't beat him twice. Both times he agreed to the rematch, then backed out claiming injury....then as soon as Alvarez signed with EliteXC, Thompson suddenly became healthy enough to fight again and signed to fight on 1\31. TFK
My boy Alvarez looked damn good tonight, winning by KO in the 2nd round. He's gonna be a beast for EliteXC. Good card overall. TFK
..... Forgot to respond back to this thread. I was wrong about Alvarez getting dominated. I didn't remember the fight as well as I thought. Regardless, I wasn't bullshitting I have that Bodog on DVD.
Not at 155 he won't. BJ is a guy with so much natural talent....that he gets lazy and baloons up in weight, but is still good enough to compete with the very best fighters who are naturarlly bigger and stronger, but he is n't in shape and is suspect to tiring. At 155 that hasn't and won't be a problem for him imo. That keeps him honest.....fighting at 155. He is lightyears better than the Muscle Sherk.
He's only had 2 recent fights t 155 with neither going past 2 rounds. Even in his prime he had issues with stamina. Remind me how he lost to Jens Pulver (rhetoical question).
Good call TFK on your boy Alvarez. He looks like the truth in EliteXC. I wish we could see him and Daley at 160, not sure if Daley could make 160 though. A fight with him and Diaz is interesting as wellopcorn:
