shocked zayas team took the fight. im still skeptical till i see them in the ring. credit to the kid though, if he goes through with it.

I wonder if dazn put pressure on top rank to make this fight and if their deal was contingent upon it happening soon.

also, Im guessing someone ponied up a good amount of money for zayas, who probably plans to go to 160 afterward anyway and can claim the weight cut was too tough.

I'm still in shock that Ennis/Ortiz is not happening.

Not signed yet but Emiliano Vargas vs. George Kambosos Jr. could land on June 27th at the Barclays Center as part of the Zayas-Ennis undercard.

    Thoughts?

Good step up in competition(experience) for Emiliano....I hope it gets made. I doubt Kambosos will put up as much a fight as Emiliano's last opponent....being all shell shocked from the Haneyx2, Loma, Hitchins beating..

I feel like Zayas is being thrown to the wolves early. Getting Vargas vs Trinidad vibes. But I still think it should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it.

It’s hard for me to envision Zayas winning. He’s technical, but I don’t see him having any answers for Boots. He’ll land an occasional flush counter but he’s not strong enough to do any real damage.

    Boots KO 8

Zayas is well passed prospect at this point. If he's not gonna fight the best, why bother?

Honestly now that you mentioned it 23 years old should already be the age of fighting the best. It’s easy to forget how much younger fighters back then were when they already fought top level fighters compared to today’s fighters. More respect to him for actually stepping up at this stage of his career.

    Hes unified champion :Jest:

And though Improved he could've easily faced a less dangerous guy in fundora, charlo, spence, tszyu, etc for not much less than his fight with ennis will generate

Now that's not to say he isnt potentially being paid (much) more for this fight. Some fellas have been known to overpay

Just saying, there's an endless list of examples of why competition matters and why size matters.

After ennis bashes the shit outta zayas he still wont have beat anyone id consider very good, let alone elite. Hardly his fault, either

This simply isnt the junior middle golden age of Trinidad, Oscar, Wright, and Vargas. Boots can only beat who's available.

Not a bad fight for Ennis, considering what happened with Ortiz. Still, its very hard to imagine Zayas winning. Hopefull, the ortiz fight is next (if a judge gives a big fu to dlh). I would event settle for a Fundora fight

Zayas is not Trinidad or Benitez. He's average as fuck and will never be a crossover star. Might as well cash him out now.

Yea I don’t think another year of Zayas fighting stiffs will help. He’s a decent young fighter who isn’t really “special”. Nothing about him really stands out. Boots has his defensive flaws, but I don’t see Zayas having the power to exploit that enough. Ortiz and Fundora have a better shot against Boots than him.

Zayas Is Apparently Having Trouble Making '54 and Will Be Leaving the Division Soon Anyways...He's Betting On Himself w/House Money, While Getting A-Side Treatment, Simultaneously...

He'll Be Favored to LOSE So If He Does, No Biggie...If Zayas Acquits Himself Well While Taking an L, That's a WIN of Sorts...And if He Actually DOES Beat Boots, Zayas is Propelled to Star Status Overnight...

There's Something Special About that Puerto Rican AMBITION Though...Tito Had it in Spades...Miguel Cotto Had It...17 Year Old Wilfred Benitez Had It...Xander Zayas Seems to Have it Also...They Weren't Interested in Taking the EASY Way Out...

Zayas seems like a hard worker so I won't write him off completely once ennis bashes him,

But he could end up being Sadam "World Mid" Ali 2.0

Steve kim saying zayas took the fight against strong advice of top rank and his managers. Kudos to zayas!

    Ennis 3-1 favorite
