Not sure if it’s been mentioned but Joe Calzaghe and Mikkel Kessler are really good friends.

 

How did ward amd donaire became friend? During a tournament?

 

From what I can remember they both started at the same martial arts or boxing club when they were kids, something like that.

 

I believe that Donaire was a bay area fighter as an amateur.

Nah, Donaire was born in the Philippines but raised in the US IIRC

 

Donaire moved to San Leandro as a kid, which is close to Hayward and Oakland (it actually borders Oakland). He and Ward are pretty close in age. I’m guessing they met through boxing circles.

On a side note while not exactly boxers Ward has said he is good friends with the Diaz brothers and has sparred with them. Probably because of the Nor Cal connection(Oakland/Stockton).

The trio of Crawford/Taylor/Prograis seem to all have a little frienenemy thing going on - they're all rivals and talk shit to each other, but overall it seems that that all like one another.

Crawford the fighter aside, Bud always comes across as a good dude. He's very grounded, and has never let being a celebrity get to his head.
