I know JL Castillo used coke a lot and drank himself back in the day when double L was claiming he could beat Hearns at 147.

Two boxers on LSD, now that would be an interesting non-fight.

Yet another in the collection of useless and pointless comments from you in the vain attempt to "prove" that today's heavyweight division isn't garbage.

Here's a hint...it IS garbage. And no number of half-assed posts from you will change that.

Dude...I'm starting to think YOU are on drugs. Your posts are making even less sense than normal...and that is saying something.

It's like you are clicking "reply", letting a kitten run across your keyboard, slapping some Smilies in the post and then clicking "send".

    Yeah, ok...whatever that means...

You are like a parrot with Tourette Syndrome whose elderly spinster lady owner sometimes can't tell the difference between her medication and bird seed, which results in the likes of these these most recent "gem" posts from you.

The 80s was loaded with talented, skilled heavyweights who had no staying power or discipline... only Larry Holmes had staying power and achieved any "greatness"... and Larry was really a 70s fighter who took an extra long time to get noticed

Witherspoon, Thomas... great technical boxers, just lazy and inconsistent, but the skill and talent was there in spades

Gerrie Coetzee had a monstrous right hand but no gas tank

Mike Dokes is one of the most talented heavyweights ever, but again he lacked discipline

Greg Page had everything you'd want in a heavyweight... same thing

John Tate was a beautiful boxer but his chin sucked, same with Carl Williams

How many bad fights was Mike Weaver in?

even the second-rate guys like Berbick, Tony Tubbs, Tucker, they were very solid

what the division lacked before Tyson came along and unified it, was someone who was clearly the bridge between Holmes and Tyson... many of the above guys seemed to have all that was needed to fill that void, but none of them did, they all had some brilliant wins and performances but would crap out soon after

But from the standpoint of there being lots of good fighters, I think the 80s was actually a better OVERALL heavyweight division than that of the 90s in spite of the fact that the 90s was more top-heavy in quality with Lennox, Riddick, Holy, Tyson

The 80's suffered from one particularly unfortunate problem- It wasn't the 70's. Early 90's suffered from one problem- it wasn't the late 80's. Thankfully, there was the novelty of Foreman to keep people occupied and once Evander Holyfield had seen off Tyson, the division was able to get the respect it deserved. Of course todays division suffers from the fact that its not American, despite the fact that you can pick champions from all 4 and now 5 decades {70's, 80's, 90's, 00's and 10's+} and make meaningful competitive fights between them.
